vision:
based on a dark vision of earth where the cold war doesn't end and a reaganesq america begins preperations to fight and win WW3 against a powerful Soviet union. Western europe is more or less subjugated by an increasingly militaristic american which then renames itself the Republic of Earth (RoE) the soviet union is justifiably afraid of an all out invasion and continues to arm itself for the inevitable final showdown with RoE forces. the UN with strong leadership from the neutral countries especially in the newly emerging republics from africa, and non Soviet asia, and support from south america (which is torn apart from RoE/USSR faceoff) takes it upon themselves to launch the Colonization effort of Alpha Centauri. years after the Unity is launched RoE and USSR begin a new space race to colonize Alpha Centauri. the RoE organizes an expeditionary force whose objective is to bring the colonist on Alpha Centauri under the power of the RoE. The USSR effort is more of a colonization effort but h ultimate plan is for Soviet forces to overrun Chiron. they launch on the eve of world war three on earth. and so the conflict of the cold war takes to the stars.

if i ever come to grips with the scenario editor i am going to do a scenario with them

i know they are a little powerful and i balanced them against each other than against the original factions

i have tweaked them and they get science at a fairly brisk pace. noticei have tech cost in their faction abilities in the latest tweaking of them they have tech cost 85 and research, 2 also think about the benefits of having a punishmeant sphere in every base for free.

1. no recreation commons
2. no human genome project
3. no virtual world
4. no hologram theaters
5. no drone riots
6. everyone can always be on production at all times with no consequences
