What's their starting tech? And also, you never put in the population limit. |

Giantyou didn't add a tech in the place where it reads for techs, and they seem a little weak they are not really conquering faction or a builder faction, but they have the potential for being awsome with the green rush. have you let the computer play them? what exactly does it do the A.I. when you set their agenda/aversion as Future societies? korn469 |

The datalinks blurb that references Industrial Base is in error. The faction gets no starting tech. The population limits are in, re-read the first few lines As to the faction not being either builder or conqueror, right. That's the point. You can do either marginally but neither amzingly well. One of the motivations to create the Seekers was to debunk the claims that they can conquer all by MY 2300 or so. Not that this is impossible (with the Seekers probably impossible though) but it would be highly unlikely and require a certain kind of map. Also, several factions are to easy to beat, some natural conquerors, etc. So we know that all factions are not created equal and that some are downright terrible (Morgan, esp. when played by AI). The Seekers is meant to be a challenge (can't beleive I'm the only one who thinks simngle player is too easy at times) to play while still fitting into the game. Has anyone actaully playtested other non-standard factions? |

As to the AI playing them: Well, it's ok. Morgaine likes to ally with the Hive which should be pretty impossible when you think of their respective visions. But, then again, while playing the Hive, Lal (seething) likes to ally with myself Go figure. In any event, the AI does passable, uses mindworms etc... I've noticed no ill-effect with using a future society as a goal. The pity is having to use GROWTH as a goal. But it was the only satisfactory solution I could find. |

Giantboy am i glad you asked "has anyone else actually play tested non-standard factions" cuz do i have an answer for you, Yes! i am currently making two factions that are arch rivals the RoE and CSSR. no one ever likes looks in my thread but they are missing out. i am still tweaking my factions and play testing them. they are a bit on the strong side but not too much. and i still haven't figured out if it's possible or your factions to have two aversions, i still haven't got it to work yet. if anyone knows i'd appreciate it very much korn469 p.s. her's the back ground for my factions based on a dark vision of earth where the cold war doesn't end and a reaganesq america begins preperations to fight and win WW3 against a powerful Soviet union. Western europe is more or less subjugated by an increasingly militaristic american which then renames itself the Republic of Earth (RoE) the soviet union is justifiably afraid of an all out invasion and continues to arm itself for the inevitable final showdown with RoE forces. the UN with strong leadership from the neutral countries especially in the newly emerging republics from africa, and non Soviet asia, and support from south america (which is torn apart from RoE/USSR faceoff) takes it upon themselves to launch the Colonization effort of Alpha Centauri. years after the Unity is launched RoE and USSR begin a new space race to colonize Alpha Centauri. the RoE organizes an expeditionary force whose objective is to bring the colonist on Alpha Centauri under the power of the RoE. The USSR effort is more of a colonization effort but h ultimate plan is for Soviet forces to overrun Chiron. they launch on the eve of world war three on earth. and so the conflict of the cold war takes to the stars. if i ever come to grips with the scenario editor i am going to do a scenario with them

Hmm, I'm used to the highjacking you mentioned. But, IMHO, the Hackers and the Cold War reprise factions are out of place. My intent was to come up with a faction that was not silly (like many we've seen here), not ported from CivII (e.g., the two factions in this thread that are throwbacks to the US and Russia) but was/is somewhat orignal (Hacker's are just another University...). That's the rub. I think it obvious that, after a while of playing, the standard factions are a bit too easy. Of course, this depends on your style of play. In any event, the Seekers are, hopefully, a novel challenge and not a rehash or what we have already. Just my 2 Pfennige... |
