how do you do it? i keep getting error messages.

Ok first (this isnt nessesary) open up the desired faction with wordpad.
then look at what it says
IE:

; Sid Meier's ALPHA CENTAURI
;
; FACTION FILE: The Lord's Believers
;
; Copyright (c) 1997, 1998 by Firaxis Games, Inc.
;
; ALPHA CENTAURI reads the rules of the game from this file at
; startup. Feel free, at your own risk, to experiment with editing
; this file. We recommend you make a backup copy of the original.
;
#BELIEVE
The Lord's Believers, The Fundamentalist,
see where it says #BELIEVE. This is what you need to remember. when you load the faction in the game type "BELIEVE" (or what other factio you want) tell me if this works for you.
