Ten years after the Unity blasted into space its illustrious boost to world hope soon diminished as the now spent U.N. forces struggled to fight back the rising tide of the United Earth Directorate. The U.N. was powerless to stop the U.E.D. and it soon took control of the earth. The U.N. was deeply rooted still and did what it could to overthrow the new rule. The leader of the U.E.D. now set his sights on those who went on the unity. All the unity's technology had been stolen and improvements had been made to it. In 35 years the unity would land on planet, he wanted to be there when they awoke. He used the last of Earth's depleted resources to fashion his own private unity with the newest technology, called the Conquest. Being smaller and more advanced than its predecessor it would make the unity's 40 year trip in 30 years arriving at exactly the same tine the unity was calculated to arrive...

Five years later, after the completion of the Conquest. The world dictator loaded himself and his most loyal followers into the Conquest, and prepared to blast off after the Unity. Knowing that his new order would fall to U.N. insurgents without his lead. He ordered a secret project aside from the Conquest named the "Doomsday Device". In the final hour before Blasting to Alpha Centauri, he started the doomsday device with a one hour counter. Just as the Conquest left the Sol system on its 30 year voyage to alpha centauri. Earth became nothing more than a field of asteroids in a great flare.

I have a slightly different idea. All the same up until the Conquest. That doesn't happen. Instead, the Unity makes it there with no problems. It sets up, 7 Factions, blah, blah, blah, until one conquers the others. A few months later, they find out about the UED. They both want to conquer each other, and an interplanetary war begins.

sorry, its in the ensuing 5 years after the unity left earth the U.E.D. took control of earth, not ten years later. Sorry for the inconvenience.
