I almost always use the University of Planet when I play. They get an extra tech at the begining of the game, and have more of a labs bonus. So how cna other factions be more advanced then me and have less cities than me if thier top city pop. is 8 and mine is 13?????? Also is there anything that is bad about the U.O.P?

Well, they could have a higher percentage of their people working on tech than you do. You can change the percentages in the social engineering screen. The worst thing about the UoP is the 1 drone for every four citizens, this can be a crippling effect. |

How much energy are you producing? They could be on a higher elevation, or have better nous energy squares than you. Or like the man said, higher labs %, or the computer can be trading techs amongst themselves and moving along faster. Never, ever sell factions commlinks to another computer faction! EVER! |

I somehow avoid the drones. Something I forgot to ask: In the rule book for the factions it talks about making a choise (ex. democratic, wealth)but nothing in the game ever came up about this. Why? |

The choice would be social engineering. I think you can just hit 'E' (or is it Shift-E) to bring it up... you need to research govt. options as normal.UoP is probably the single best faction in the game on citizen level. I assume you are playing at a fairly basic level because you haven't gotten to social engineering, and as such you probably are playing at fairly low levels. When you start playing the game on harder and harder levels, the UoP begins to drop in relative excellence... and drop... and drop... until they pretty much bottom out somewhere in the worst three. The extra drone per every 4 pop is pretty awful at TI level (4 pop = 4 drones), and it almost guarantees that you won't be able to have any Golden Ages without extreme expenditure of resources, thus limiting your potential even further. --Ghost |

Maybe you just suck. Actually it all depends on energy. And this depends on how well you've developed your place. Both in buildings and terraforming. Ive been ahead in tech with the believers before, but then i also had an awesomely developed infrastructure. A lot of variables affect it. The U just gets a bonus to tech, it does not get a guarantee it will always be on top. |
