I saw in the manual a reference to the Energy Grid. It is supposed to be a base facility, but there seems to be no other mention of it. I even saw reference to it in the strategy guide, but when I went to look it up, there was no information on it. It is supposed to increase a base's energy reserves by 50%. Has anyone else heard of it, or was it simply a pipe dream of Firaxis?

I found the manual's mention of the "Energy Grid." It's really the "Energy Bank" in the game.

(Assuming this mention is the one on page 166, in the list of base facilities, of course.)

The reference in the manual is about energy reserves, not economy allocation bonus, which is the type of the energy bank.
I think I have seen the option of building energy grid, on the only game I had 100% tech everything, but maybe I was too sleepy ;P.
By the way, if I was awake the energy grid would increase the energy output of the base (not only a economy, labs or psych bonus), like there are facilities that increase mineral output.

NoviceCEO, you definitely was sleeping and mix-dreaming about Alpha SimCity Centauri 3000 .
I never saw a "build energy grid" terraform option or similar feature/function into any of my "all tech discovered" games.
May be you are a Firaxis beta tester and found energy grid in Alien Crossfire
or perhaps you are a foreseeing and all we will find Energy grid into CIV III or SMAC 2. If the latter, please give us more info (real NEXT news! )
- Just kidding, please don't take this as offence to you about your post. -

Hmm. I was checking out both the manual and the guide. On page 166 in the manual it mentions the Energy Grid. On about page 163, it says that the Energy Bank (totally different) comes free with Quantum Mechanics. At least, thats what I understand. In the index of the Guide, there is supposed to be information on the Energy Grid on both pages 163 and 166, but when I went to check, I saw reference to the Hab Complex on page 163 and reference to the Hologram Theatre on page 166. I checked in the Guide index for reference to the Energy Bank and it was correctly listed as being on page 160, as well as the reference to it coming free with Quantum Mechanics. However, in the Guide index, it says that there is supposed to be information on report readouts for the Energy Banks on the HQ menu on page 112, but there isn't. Now this annoys me. I don't like being teased in that manner. My goodness, if I'm going to fork out $20 for a strategy guide, it should have correct information!

The energy grid does exist, it's just not a thing you can build. The only place I've heard of it in the game is when your probe teams download 500 energy credits from an enemy energy grid (like that would happen ).

mcostant, I'm not a Firaxis tester, therefore, I was too sleepy that day when I got 100%tech , the only one, by the way.
About SC3k, I don't play it, so I don't know what the heck you're talking about.
And the last thing... I thought it was a building, not a terraforming structure.
