We have all read about the population boom. The problem I run into is that I get a drone after every additional citizen. Sometimes destroying my creche in the process. (not good) I realize that I can build rec commons first but I like to get that big pop as soon as possible to make my energy sky rocket. Any other suggestions?

Yes but if your getting riots the energy gain is irrelevant.Try Rec commons or Virtual world, Human genome project SPs. 20% psych might solve your problems. If you try its easy to keep the PKs in golden ages indefinately.

While 'booming' I always make sure to allocate energy to psych. I know some people do not believe in psych, but riots while booming really suck. The lost turn takes away all the advantages you gain from having a higher pop.Star Commander Absimiliard Nova Cat |

Yes I allocate to pysch as well. Then I usually convert back to 0%. And adjust my cities with specialists. This prevents losing a few turns during the boom. |

Boosting psych and picking growth oriented government for 5-10 turns to gain population is a pretty good idea. Staying in pop boom is maybe not as good, most of your cities max out in 5-10 turns, then require more terraforming and infrastructure to support the citizens. Be careful to adjust your specialists when you return to 0 or 10% psych, and watch food production. |

Avoid building the Cloning Vats until after the Telepathic Matrix if possible. |

During Pop Boom, unless you do set psych high, you have to keep an eye every turn on the F4 base list, looking for the redliners, and assigning specialists. (If I have the cash, I also rush any building that's useful when it's down to 2 turns.)The Governors, when so instructed, are supposed to do this for you, but in practice they wait until the riots start (and a building is destroyed) before assigning specialists! Firaxis are sometimes SO dumb! Koshko: I'm now the Hive, and handling the Cloning Vats just fine with my Police State, Green, Power, Thought Control society with three police per base. sandworm has a good point about the need to improve the environs to support the burgeoning population. Starvation is a real drag, halting production and reducing population until a food balance is met. I play on Huge maps and larger (yes, glutton for punishment by micro-management), so the game usually lasts long enough to get Clean Hover Super Formers and Clean Hover Fungicidal Formers, which are marvellous for upgrading any and all terrain.
