I have had many submissibe Pact brothers/sisters in games, but it has always been late game when they rearely were of any help. I am currently playing the Hive on a extra huge world with max land. I was scouting very early and came across both of the Peacekeepers cities and they were NOT garrisoned. I took HQ and they surrendered. Great! I got 4 techs and a fair amount of energy.

My question is how far can I push them? They pop up every now and than and give me tech. This is actually a bit of a problem becuase with my minimal energy my research is very small and every tech they give me makes it harder for me to research what I want (+3 food, mineral and energy tech).

Do submissive pact borthers ever break the pact?
Do they ever declare war on you if one of their brothers declares war on you?
Can I ignore their pleas for help in a war against another faction?
Can I continually get energy from them and threaten to break our pact?
Can I request that their units leave my territory?

Also, they are expanding like mad. Can I get them to give me some of their colony pods or other units? I would love to get some of those alien artifacts that he is not using.

Any other help would be appreciated. I understand the concept, but have never had a submissive pact borother that could actually help me.

Also, I think that I want the PKs to have about the same number of cities that I have so that I can have good trade income with them.

Anyone had a problem with a submissive pact brother getting to big. Although UOP is by far #1 right now PK, me(Hive) and Gaians are about tied for second. I have this concern about the PK and I being #1 and #2. Could that cause a problem with our relations.

1) Yes. Submissive pact brothers will break with you if you have become less powerful than they are or if you commit major acts of atrocity or if you really concentrate on pissing them off.

2) Not really. See answer #1.

3) Yes, you can ignore them forever. Once, I even allowed a pact brother to get exterminated just to see what happens.

4) No, eventually they'll just refuse to do anything you want.

5) No, they are your pact brothers. Only enemies can be forced to leave. But you can use your probe teams to destroy his probe teams and to bribe his units.

6) You can't demand units, and demanding cities rarely work out well. Remember #1. Don't let them pass you in power.

So in general the rules to follow for a submissive pact brother are:

1) Stay more powerful than them
2) Make demands when you need to, but don't abuse it

I make a habit of offering to buy submissive pact brothers size one, just built cities. This keeps them from expanding too fast and makes me stronger as well. The cost isn't too bad on a size one city - usu. 100-400 credits.

100-400 is pretty cheap for a city. I'll try that also.

ANyone tried to buy submissive pact brother cities using a probe? Do you get in less trouble if you are caught?

I once had all but the UoP and Hive submissive to me. Both the Hive and UoP were beating on the Believers, so I gave her some useful tech in exchange for credits of course and in turn she eliminated the Hive and beat the UoP into submission. Sister Miriam then got cocky towards me and forced me to end her "her bible-thumping" ways rather quickly, though her tech never equalled my own.

Thanks for the help. Purchasing your pact brother's new cities for 100-400 is a great way to gorw your faction and to keep his faction in check.

My research is still real slow because I keep getting tech from the PKs. I have also found that buying tech from Morgan is rather easy.

I am now number 1 overall, but the Gaians are getting close to my borders. I sence a war about to happen.
