How do you build a "tech city" ???? Please enlighten me.

2 important features of a tech city. Energy production and labs production which go hand in hand. Build it preferribly in high terrain with 3 special resources if possible. Build all energy and labs facilites including tree farm and hybrid forest. Use at least one borehole for extra energy. Build supply crawlers to bring in more energy. Next try to get all of these secret projects: Merchant Exchange, Supercollider, Theory of Everything, Network Backbone, and space elevator. |

There are a few helpful hints in "Best Bases" thread I started last week or so. |

Another option is a coastal city. On every water square, plant kelp and build a Harness. Plant Forest everywhere (unless you also have some high terrain as well). A Borehole may or may not be needed depending on location. Also make rivers. For a slight bonus Energy make that base your HQ. Every little bit helps.Keep the best defenders you got nearby. |

Merchant Exhange, Network Backbone, Super collider, all the tech facilities (Research Hostipital, Fusion Lab). I think there's another wonder with a similar effect to SuperCollider but I don't remember |

My best Tech city was coastal. next to 3000 metre mountain - lots of kelp to provide food, lots of altitude for energy.Build rivers like made AND echelon mirrors. |

When Supercollider becomes available, choose a city with good energy production and build it there (if you have Merchant Exchange there then fine, but it still works reasonably if you haven't). Then build biology lab, network node and everything else that is good for labs in that city if it doesn't have them already - only interrupt this to build the Theory of Everything.Get your formers to improve energy even further - either forests with Tree Farm and Hybrid, or lots of Solar Collectors, Echelon Mirrors etc. If you want even more science, you can then build some supply crawlers in the city (or elsewhere and re-assign them) and send them to Boreholes or other energy-rich places. Then look at your HQ lab status and see how much of your research is coming from just one base! CelticWarLord |

The key is to try and put all 4 of the tech sp's in the same base, your headquarters is probably the best choice because of efficency, but make sure it has good mineral output(if it doesn't, then use supply crawlers!). If your able to do this, and a have a rather large pop, 1000 tech points a turn is easy. |

Oh, and just to review, those 4 tech sp's are- Merchant Exchange (+1 energy per square) Supercollider (labs 100%) Theory of Everything (labs 100%) Network Backbone (hard to explain this one, but I know it works!)

Network backbone gives +1 research for every point of commerce at the base that it is built in. Currently I am geting about 32 more research becasue of NB at my HQ. |

It would be nice to know the order that SMAC processes increases to research, food and minerals. I.E. take the unmodified energy multiply by ## if this, add 50 if this, divide by 50 it this....Than again maybe just the very anal-micromanagers would like this. |

Do all the SPs mentioned in the one base, and build 100 or more crawlers, rover crawlers, sea crawlers, drop crawlers, whatever. Assign them to this base. Send them out to enrgy rich squares. Build only research and economy improving facilities in this base. Make sure you have a defense pod in the skies to (hopefully) block the PBs that will likely as not be launched at this base.
