Does anyone have the feeling that the basic strategy is about controlling Moosoon Jungles? In the half dozen games I played at transcend level, I always ended up fighting a vicious war against the faction controlling that landmark. The AI factions benefit too much from its resources: the extra food allows your opponents to grow very fast, and AI factions do not have to worry about drones until their cities get very large. The large population means higher production, more energy, and lots of science. It may be a good idea to create a map without that damn place.

Frankly, it doesn't make any difference (only to your score). You always end up fighting the guy (in my case, usually Yang, who owns the rest of the planet anyway. He may have kicked hell out of the others early on and that's why he's got it - it may not be an initial endowment. That said - MJ rocks without doubt (but less so with Morgan) |

yes the faction that starts there is usually #2 right behind me. Unless they start to close to miriam or yang. I rarely start there, but it's an extra challenge to eliminate that faction and claim the land for yourself. |

Yup, the Monsoon Jungles do have a significant impact here, as Resource consumer said.Either Yang or Miriam starts out there and it would fighting a hard, and fast war. And not forgetting the Borehole Cluster, Yang and Lal could churn up a really formidable force as well as an infrastructure that can hog up all possible SPs towards the midgame.

Yes, Moonson does have an advantage. I seldomly start ther though. Iprefer the L-Shaped isle w/ the Freshwater Sea and Ridge (Huge Map of Planet). This actually makes the game seem more challenging. |

Although I like getting the Jungle for myself, I don't worry about it too much if another faction has started there. Generally, it just means that when I come for their bases, they will be big productive ones instead of a bunch of scattered useless ones.In almost all of my random maps that have featured the jungle, the game begins with it unoccupied. The race is then on to develop enough of an infrastructure to cart some pods that way and start building the suburbs. But I wouldn't say it's the deciding factor in any game. |
