How good is fungus as a terraform? Is it better than solar collectors, mines and farms or is it just a good balance?

Fungus is not a good terraform in the early game. unless you wan't to plant it in enemy territory. Some people use it on the edge of their empire as a shield to slow down enemies. But the base resources are poor until the upper level tech is researched. Then it will be about as good as forests with the hybrid forest improvement. |

If you play with the Gaians, you can use that +1 nutrients to your advantage. Otherwise, it's better to Forest because Hybrid Forest improvement comes Long before many of the fungus improving Techs. |

Some guidelines to follow: Fungus gives NO nutrients, minerals, or energy to any faction with a negative planet rating (hello, Free Market!) Fungus gives nothing higher than your tech level confers for squares with a nutrient/mineral/energy bonus. It also does not give add'l energy for river squares. Fungus impedes movement severly (unless you are a worm (!) or have the Xenoempathy dome.)Fungus is a welcome mat for Planet native life to overwhelm you. However, once it is late in the game, it can rival Tree Farm/Hybrid forests if your planet rating is high enough (go green for the efficiency.) Let forests run rampant, and leave the fungus for the enemy. I go now. |
