posted 06-17-99 07:31 PM ET I'm trying to figure out what the point of these are in the game. All the manual says they do is "Operate Underwater", but apart from this there dosen't seem to be any real advantage to building them.
Am I missing something here?

I have built sub transports. Even though I'm pretty sure the computer knows where all my units are anyway. Although I have noticed the computer ai sends out needlejets to search for units a lot, and when they find one they attack it. I suppose sub transports can be real useful in multiplayer. If you fix the bug in alpha.txt you can also add aaa to sub transports.

Actually now that I think of it, I'm going to try to build real submarines in my next game. With good attack and defense values, and see if the computer finds them as easily as they find my regular ships. Even with stasis armor the computer ai chaos ships still win by attacking first. I would like some defensive advantage with ships.

The computer is not effected by submarines, but in multiplayer (I believe) they act as if cloaked.

I would build them if I knew the AI wouldn't hunt them down immediately, and if they actually looked like subs. Who designed that as a special ability instead of a separate chassis, anyway?
I go now.
