The Gaians keep been the first on the Planet to discover "secrets of the human brain" I have only on 2 occasions been able to beat them in this technology race using UoP. WHY?

The Gaians and the PK each start with one of the prerequisite techs as part of their inherent faction abilities. So they only need to research the other prerequisite, but all other factions need to research both. You have more of a chance as UoP with blind research off, but you are still at a disadvantage. |

Hmm. When I play, UoP gets it something like seven oot of ten times. The Gaians usually get it the other times, though I've actually seen Morgan get it first once. Fjorxc the Maniac Unwashed Village Idiot, Wanderer, CWALer, 8th Canadian Faction of Humanity.

Yea, it's a double burn since the discovery of it grants another technology. |

I usually get it with Blind reaserch on. Just keep up energy production with early expansion, and you should get it. With it turned off, I have never failed to get it. High Priest |

My experience is in line with that of High Priest.I get my second base up quickly to ensure decent energy income. So my first two bases are 2-3 squares apart. - icosahedron

My friends, I have gotten The Secrets of the Human Brain every time I have played the UoP. Always with the blind research on, and always start out slow. Don't build a thousand bases right at the beginning, build a few and then two or three former at each base. The formers may cost in the beginning but they pay off quickly. This is on every difficulty level too. |

ProteusX: What? Really they do? It's funny -- I usually played Gaians, and UoP was ALWAYS geting it first! I played on Transcend. Ah, don't worry, it's the only secrets they get in whole game! |

What can really pee you off is when some other Faction discovers it ONE TURN before you would. It happened to me before. Got so angry about it, I reloaded a game from a few turns ago, and then I increased my Labs total. Sure, I lost money those next couple of turns, but it sure made me feel better. |

Actually the Gaians start with Centauri Ecology, which isn't a requirement for Secrets of the Human Brain (at least not according to the Tech Tree Poster). |

Strange...I've never played a game were Gaians were the first faction to discover Secret of the human brain. It's mostly UoP or PK and only once have Morgan gor it first. AMbro2000

I've just been started as Morgan this morning and got it (thinker). Nice to have, but only like an alien artifact at NN. |

I think that someone posted here earlier, but it happened to me last night. You do NOT get a free tech if you discover Secrets of the human brain with an alien artifact. You do get the message that that discovery has stimulated a burst of discovery, but no free tech. |

Right, Gaians do not start out with one of the pre-reqs (which are Biogenetics and Social Psych) If you have blind research off your best bet to getting them (at least that I've found) is to research social psych first. I find that gives you a better chance of having biogenetics show up in the next set of choices. If I do bio first, then social psych is rarely there the next time around. I think the AI does this on purpose just to annoy me. There was one time though where I had bio and social psych and it didn't give me the option of researching secrets of the human brain until like 3 advances later (after of course someone else had gotten it)! |

It took me about 15 advances to before secrets to the H.barin showed up as something researchable in my last game. I ended up stealing it from UOP during our first war. We were using Needlejets (among other units) in this war and I did not have Secrets of the H.Brain. Pretty strange. |

"Ah...DAMN!!! I lost that f***ing tech tree poster!!! AHHH!!!" --Me "Right Now, at 2:15 AM" --- <now what was i gonna say?> try launching a nice, pre-planned attack on the UoP or the Gay-ans (oops! Gaians). this is just an idea, but if you build a couple units quick, and if they don't have many bases, run in there and conquer one. that will take their research out, while you (considering that this is all planned out, and your police rating will suffice) go ahead and discover secrets of the human brain (just an idea, but someone try it) |

FYII just 'got' Secrets of ALpha Centuari tech free using an artifact and suer enough I did NOT get the free tech. I posted an identical note about Secrets of teh Human Brain. Annoying |
