Noticed that whenever I discovered a Secret Technology through an alien artifact, I never get the bonus technology that you get if you researched it yourself. Bug or feature?

I don't know... area you sure you was the first to to discover it?

drako is correct. If you get any of the three secrets techs (secrets of the human brain, secrets of creation or secrets of alpha centauri IIRC), you will not get the bonus discovery. I'm not sure if this was a bug/oversight or intended but that's how it works in play.
