Okay.. how do you get rid of a city you've captured.. without committing an atrocity. Ive tried building colony pods and formers when its size 1, but it just builds the unit and stays at size 1. Is this because Ive still got base facilities or something like that? Thanx.

If it's size one, and doesn't grow while you are building the colony pod, it should give you a message asking if you want to disband it, or delay production. Don't delay production. Do you have the 3.0 patch installed? I don't have that problem, but I rarely destroy captured cities, unless there choice of location is poor, or the enemy city interferes with my own too much. |

What difficulty level are you playing? I don't think cities can be disbanded by building a colony pod unless you play on talent or above. |

Stasis is correct. At lower levels of difficulty you can not disband bases by building colony pods. |

Well, that ranks WAY up there on the "bad design decisions" list, and saves me from having to ask the same question. So, at lower levels, my choices are "keeping a base that is horribly inconveniently placed, which is half the reason I wanted to take it over anyhow" or "committing an atrocity". I see. That's almost as annoying as the part where other factions can build sea bases in my territory and take up resource squares my bases would otherwise get to use, because if it's in the sea, it isn't really my territory. *eyeroll* |

I play strictly on Transcend, so my answers are based on game play as it is at that level.I think the point at the lower levels is to give you "free" expansion in the early game, since you don't have to wait for city growth. Eris - take over them bases, or if you have naval ships nearby, they are usually undefended at first, so you can just march right in and kill them. Usually you can avoid a diplomatic penalty if you are not yet at was, by asking them to do something like give you a city or money because you'll "refrain from crushing you like a bug" They'll declare Vendetta, you march into the brand new, size one sea colony, and then you can call them up again and usually they'll ask for a truce. |

Eris -- A third option is to use the "cone of silence" afforded to you by sunspot activity. Wait until there are sunspots, take the base, then obliterate it. The destroyed faction will be very pissed, but others will remain unaware. If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears, is it still an atrocity? |

I love the sunspots. This is when I like to start a war. Computer factions can not call for help from the other factions. Makes a 1 front war easier to wage. |

Another thing about the atrocity is that all they do is hit you with economic sanctions - no BFD if you're at war with most or all of them, since you won't be trading anyway. Unless you are a megabuilder and very well developed, the loss of trade income won't have much of an effect. |

At the low level (I guess) you can get rid of the city by bringing it down to size 1 building colonypods and then leave it undefended and release a mindworm right next to it. Mindworm attacs -> population 1 down -> city gone |
