Ok, I've been playing for about two weeks, and I'm getting the research and war thing down, but I always seem to have a negative income...thank god for mindworm attacks!!! I usually play as the Gaians or the Hive, so any help in teaching me the economic aspects of this game would be greatly appreciated (come on all of you Morganites)...

Here is a little help. Money is hard at the beginning of the game. You have to get something like Ecological Engineering to start gettting 3+ energy per square. Also, an Energy bank sould be high on your list of base facilities to build.

Terraforming can help out your energy a lot also.

That should point you in the right direction.

If you are having trouble with making money, here are a few more ideas...

Pay attention to rivers. They yeild an extra credit. Don't be afraid to use Drill to Aquifier. The time the former(s) spends drilling is made up in energy returns.

Try to keep the local inefficency of your bases from stealing too much of your credits by building Children Creche's in cities with a loss of 4 or more units to inefficency. (But these cities need to be within 20 tiles of your HQ)

If you like the Gaians, use Tree Farms and Hybrid Forest to change those 1-2-1 forest into the killer forest squares they are. Also, in mid to large bases, Hybrid Forest make you money due to their bonus to economy.

Think Fusion labs in mid to large cities. They are like energy banks and network nodes in one facility.

Try to keep your Economy Social Engineering ranking up in times of peace. This will help a generate extra credit in each square worked if you can get to Econonmy +2.

Build the Merchant Exchange.

Build a raise the land to gain energy bonuses for your solar collectors.

Make Supply Crawlers and send them out to harvest/ferry Energy from outside city bounds.

When you build/capture the Command Nexus (Secret Project), scrap ALL of your Command CENTERS (building facility). Do the same with Maritime Project and Naval Centers, and Cyborg Factory and Bioenhancement Centers.
