A quick poll to determine your all-time worst enemy (choose one only), generally - at least at Librarian level. Also indicate whether the game is more difficult with 'Blind Research' turned on or not. Lastly, you may want to include the game level that you like to/most often play in. But this doesn't contribute to the vote count. ------------------------------------------ The Hive BR on (Transcend) --------------------------- Hive :1 The rest:0 BR on :1 BR off :0

TranscendNot sure if BR is on(I think it is - 73 turns to get Centuari Empathy as Morgan?!?!) Biggest problem: Sparta (stupid early doctrine:flex gives them too much power on a 30% landmass game) Most annoying: Believers (keep declaring war and then giving up when they realize that they're goign to get crushed) |

OK, it's the PK. Unless spanked early and well, they really are a problem in the later years. The Believers always fall behind in tech, and the Hive always seems a little short on population. |

Hoped that you meant it to make the game more difficult, and this vote count's for the strongest enemy on your preferred harder game option.

RC - Miriam is a little nastier towards Morgan, PK, UoP and the Gaians, due to her prejudices against research and democracy. With the hive, she is more reasonable, but I don't give technology to anyone except the lovely Deirdre. (I play mostly PK, always at TI level) |

I always play trancend (can you play any other difficulty?) and BR off. The spartans are a pain in the beginning and so are the believers, but being incredibly stupid they are easily outmanoeuvered. The Hive are annoying things that always missile all my defences, but never attacks(!?!). But the all time worst must be those pesky peacekeepers, who eventually will attack you no matter what you do. |

Transcend. BR off.Must be the Believers. It doesn't matter what I try to do to placate her if Miriam gets Particle Impactor first then I'm as good as dead since she will do an Impact Infantry rush on me if I try to build the SP's, especially if I pick Wealth to help Industry and build things faster. Whenever I learn that I start next to the Believers, my only choice is to rush for Particle Impactor and make her surrender before she can research for it. That usually means some other factions will get all the goodie SP's and get on top of the power chart. |

Believers on Thinker, BR on is much harder.Believers are a killer early, as Zozo says --for a blow-by-blow description of an epic 100-year struggle with Miriam, see "The Myth of Early Conquest" thread. They are also a problem late, if they've gobbled up another faction they are pretty tough to beat. They were actually #2 in tech in one game, because of their huge number of bases and heavy probing and bullying. |

Absolutely the PK's. The Hive and Believers aren't so bad, at least you know from the beginning that they're going to come after you. Lal is such a hypocrite... "Peace"keepers my butt! (plus I get sick of looking at his grubby face )I play with BR off, Transcend difficulty. (Harder to play with BR on I'm sure, but I like the look of the tech choice screen when it comes up.) Mait

I think that I found a neat feature/bug. I have the game almost won, but have been waiting until I get choppers to take on the believers. She has #1 military, but I think mine is better equipped. In this game the beleivers have wanted to declare war for about 50 years. Any time one of my units goes to our (my and the believer) border and meets a believer unit she delcares war. I reload from saved game and don't move the unit to the border. I have tested this every 5 years for 50 years. Anytime I meet one of her units she delcares war, but IF I STAY MORE THAT 1 SQUARE away from her border contact is not made and she does not declare war. She is at war with the 2 lesser factions, but it seems like she will not initiate a war unless our units meet. Other thoughts..... |

If I must vote I vote for Miriam. I might have found a feature/bug that prevents her from declaring war, but it is still a pain to have to kill all her units. Sort of like wading in a swamp. You can't move because there are units everywhere. On a sort of side note solar flares just happened in my game. I am building a chopper in about 20 of my cities and should have 1-2 choppers for every believer city when the solar flares stop. I hope to take all her 15 or so cities in 1 turn. |

Believers are the most unreasonable, but it's relatively easy, and quite enjoyable, to kick Miriam's butt (and so distasteful to kiss it).So I have to vote for Yang. I usually play UoP on huge random map, transcend ironman, blind research off, everything average, spoils off, do or die on. Because of the built in perimeter defense, Yang can withstand impact weapons for a while, and any battle with Yang slows to a crawl if fought early. And he always seems to ask for weapon tech, which I am loathe to give (1-3-1 armor units behind perimeter defense is too tough early in the game). So Yang it is. That makes the count: Believers: 10 Hive: 6 Spartans: 3 Peacekeepers: 3 BR on: 14 BR off: 6 - icosahedron

I find the Believers the most annoying faction in the game. Even if I conquer them, I do not get much in the way of techs or good bases. I have enjoyed certain games playing at them, but their slow research can become annoying. I play on Trascend or thinker on a huge map and my vote is for Blind Research on.Running total: Believers: 11 Hive: 6 Spartans: 3 Peacekeepers: 3 BR on: 15 BR off: 6 --Veracitas

So I give him my vote.Of course the game is tougher and more fun with BR. laurens, for your next thread, what about getting reaction on the setting, Aggresive AI? Sheesh, I hate'em all. Hate'em all for different reasons though.Gaians/Peacekeepers because they are suppose to be pacifists, then turn around and and declare war on me every chance they get. UoP because they almost always hate me. Hive, Believers and Spartans because they always like going to war, and usually give me quite a headache. Well, I don't really hate Morgan too much, he seems to always like to make peace. Later in the game though he can be quite a pain. My all time favorite nemesis would have to be Believers though.
