An idea I have had (which I haven't had a chance to test, but which should work), to avoid losing loads of money with an economic crash, and provide other benefits, would be to convert your money into Supply Crawlers. In the mid game I usually build Clean Supply Rovers, with Drop Pods or Amphibious (depending on base locations). Keep a few of these in a defender base or Bunker. - Clean so no support costs !
Then when you need to finish an SP quickly, drive/drop them over to the base and you can finish an SP very quickly.
Now, the trick here would be to build a load of these things (or whatever configuration of Supply vehicle suits your tech and disposition), using Money to Hurry them if you want.
Then when you need a load of cash, set a Base to 'Stockpile Energy', drive the Supply vehicles over there, and Disband them. Their full Mineral value will be converted to money.
Now I know its 2 for 1, and Hurrying a build costs more in Energy than you get in Mineral Production.
But as a means of keeping something available (ie Supply vehicles), which can be converted to Production (for SPs or any other production), or for a quick Cash Boost. AND which cannot be destroyed by a Random Event, its got to be worth something ?
Thoughts, Critisism, Flaws, etc all appreciated.
