I usually play as the Hive or The UoP, am almost always most powerful, and am unspeakably evil. (Nerve stapling, Gene Warfare, Nerve Gas, PB's (ESPECIALLY PB's ) -the works)

For a change, I decided to play as the Peacekeepers, and change from unspeakably evil to unspeakably benevolent...and to my surprise, it's the most fun I've ever had at SMAC!

I started out on a small island without any lankmarks. I crammed in six bases, started building infrastructure, and when i got "Doctrine; Flexibility", I started pumping out sea colony pods and continued until I had about 2 dozen bases. (What the heck is "Eta Sector?!") I'm the top in technology and population, have never commited an atrocity, and only broke a treaty once. (I declared Vendetta on the UoP so the Believers wouldn't attack me). In fact, my empire is virtually drone-free.

And so things continued in the happy land of the Peacekeepers until circa 2300, when I ran for Supreme Leader. With the votes of my allies, the Morganites, and my double votes from the faction, as well as the 50% from the Empath Guild, I got many votes, but not enough. Shortly after my failed bid for power, the Believers attacked the Morganites, leaving them with a paltry four seabases. I donated money to them, but tried to keep out of the war (for now) as I had to build up my military. I had an invasion of the UoP planned, followed by the subjecation of the continent of the Gaians and Spartans, and was building a landbridge and an army of rovers. I could afford to wait, and possibly lose the Morganite vote.

Suddenly, as I refused to suck up to the Believers any more, they attacked and are about to take one of my seabases, and landed an invasion of 2 units on my island, which I easily repelled. I'm building up a navy to take their seabases and protect mine, as well as take out those of the Gaians, Spartans, and the Hive. I have money to burn, and have been using it to prepare for the war effort.

So I'd like to wrap it up with this: Even though my dream of peace was shattered and a bloody war is ahead, I LOVE the Peacekeepers!!! (And their bases look cool too!)

Well, I guess it's just me then. I played the PKs once and won't again for a while. I was on a medium difficulty level on a standard size map. I had Yang to the far west, the UoP way south, and Miriam right above me. As soon as I met each one they demanded energy or tech. When I refused each one declared war on me. I managed to buy an icy peace with the university, and mutual hatredness of the believers got me a treaty with yang. But by this time my infrastructure was way behind and I had very few bases. Never really finished the game, maybe I'll try another one sometime and hope I get a better starting spot. Oh, and I NEVER commit atrocities.

Well, about 50 years have gone by and things are approaching the exciting conclusion. I built the landbridge to the UoP, quickly conquering them with a 'Copter and a Drop Missile Unit. (They only had 4 cities)
Shortly thereafter I gave up on the landbridge, because to complete it I'd have to declare Vendetta on the Gaians before I was ready, so I built a transport fleet. I got a treaty with the Spartans and the Hive, and My transports have been moved into position. Next turn, I'll get an alliance with the Hive and attack the Gaians, hopefully taking all their landbases in the first turn or two and beat them into surrender.
Then with the Hive, Gaian, Morganite, and my own votes I'll run for Supreme Leader of the World!
Update on the success of the mission very soon.

The Peacekeepers are an excellent faction. They're my 2nd favorite, behind the Believers.
Look at what the PKs have:
1. Talent for every 4 citizens (rounded up)
2. Extra 2 pop before hab complex
3. Double votes for the council.

Their only negative? -1 efficiency, which is easily countered. In short, if you can't get elected governor with these guys, you just aren't trying.
And the way I play the PKs, I can duke it out just fine with the warmongers.
