i cant find a setup or install file... the only executable file is terran.exe and that starts the game from the cd-rom but doesn't install the game

Turn on autoplay for the CD drive and put the CD in, it should give you an install screen.
I think you can do the same thing by right clicking on the CD drive letter - a menu should pop up with -play/autoplay- on it.(I'm assuming you're running a Windows platform here)
