Topic: HOW DO YOU DEPLOY DEFENCE PODS?

I'm fairly new at this game, but have logged hundreds of hours at Civ, Civ2, etc. I haven't played many games all the way to completion yet, so this hasn't come up much, but I've check the Datalinks and the manual, and I can't find an answer. When you build an orbital defence pod, what is it's status...deployed or undeployed. The way the manual is written leads me to believe that there is a way to manually deploy them. If so, how, and if not, how does this affect defence against planetbusters? I really need to know this.Ravenloff

I might be wrong, but I think the way it works is that any orbital defense pods you build join the existing pool of undeployed pods, from which one is automatically deployed per turn. You only end up with undeployed pods, then, if you've been cranking out more than one a turn. |

The pods are automatically undeployed. Each time a planet buster is used against you, an undeployed pod will go after it--which, then, becomes a deployed pod (can't use until a turn or two later). You can manually deploy the Defense Pods, when another faction's pods are in orbit, to destroy them |

To expand on Stargazer's explanation a bit.Once a pod goes from undeployed to deployed status, it can still take another shot at an incoming PlanetBuster. However, thd pod is destroyed in the process. But once a pod has time to cycle back to undeployed status, it can be used again. |

Don't you think little tidbits like that would be helpful in the manual or the datalinks? |

I agree, the manual isn't all that great (esp. with info regarding different levels of play effects, etc.) But, think of it this way. . .Since it's broken down into chapters, without a Contents page, it's probably better to read it as a book. It'll give a good "look and feel" of the game. The help file, assessible during game play, is much better |
