I was just wondering if any of the strategists here could maybe help me create a custom faction. I kow how to edit all of the files but I need to know how to start and use all of the special abilities in the alpha.txt file. Any help would be appreciated.AoYoS

Unless you want to effect settings for *all* factions, you do not need to edit alpha.txt to create a custom faction.Have you tried using ACEdit (www.sidgames.com/acedit/) for your faction customization? Is there an underlying question that I missed? [I'm not certain what the "special abilities" to which you refer actually are ...] Tired, don |

I think the original poster is referring to the special abilities associated with each faction. Example - Gaian's ability to get additional nutrient from fungus, Believer's 25% attack bonus and immunity to probe mind control. |

Well, then ...You *really* don't need to fiddle with the alpha.txt file to add those things into a custom faction. Instructions for how to "enable" these abilities for cusom factions is at the head of Faction.txt ... else, you can (again) use ACEdit to "get at" most of them while faction editing/creating. I just downloaded acedit, and I am having a problem opening it. I unzipped it, but when I click on it, I get an error starting program message-- "A required .DLL file, MSVBVM50.DLL, was not found". What do I do? Please help!!! |

I had that problem. Turn on show all files, and then look in the Windows/System directory. I found it there (after searching around a bit). |

I did everything you said, and though I have quite a few .dll files there, none of them is the one requested by acedit. Am I missing something? |

I don't know if this helps, but that dll can be found at http://solo.abac.com/dllarchive/M2.html |
