Hello Everyone!I started to play with the Gaian faction, and I capture mindworms from the start of my current game. I'm going to try the mindworm rush... But i have a problem: if I capture a mindworm sometimes it will be _independent_ . It's good, because there is no home base of this mindworm, so the independent unit don't need mineral supply. But sometimes the captured mindworm automatically get a homebase, and if i capture a lot of mindworms they will drain my mining resources. So, here is my question: how can i make the captured mindworms to be independent? I thought that if i capture the mindworms in the area of a city then the homebase of the captured mindworms will be that city. But this isn't true? Do you have any idea? SzabFer ps: my english low - i know. Sorry. Did you understand me?

szabfer,Your English is fine. No need to apologize. Now, to take care of your mindworm maintenance problems, keep them in the fungus. They do not cost mineral upkeep if they end their turn in fungus. Likewise for the Isles of the Deep (IoD) in sea fungus. JAMiAM |

I'll answer for JAMiAM [since he's done the same for me]:No. This little tidbit is not in the game's manual at all. d.brodale |

As far as I know: If you capture a unit, or get it in a goody-box, that is closer to an enemy base, than to one of your bases, the unit will be independent. Please correct me if I'm wrong. "http://www.gamearena.net/addicted/acmain.htm" |

Yea verily, dbrodale speaks the truth. And, thanks, I don't know what I was doing up at that time of the morning anyway!! dbrodale, Sorry to have abandoned you on the "Mysteries" threads, but those suckers were just getting too darned long and try as we did nobody from Firaxis ever acknowledged reading them. I'm still looking forward to part3 when you get to it. JAMiAM |

Yup, worm rush works great. I did it on the demo way back when and got a demo score of something like 300%. Can you say "Kerrigan"? |

$$ &&^$@$$ @$($*%I can't believe it, I started a game as the Gains, and the entire interior of my continent is fungus, so I thought I would go to collect lots of mindowrms. I wish I had known this before. All of my mind worms now require upkeep =( Argggg, thanks for posting this though, good to know. If only Firaxis could have found room in their 200 page manual for it. |

Ok boys (and girls?)Thanks the ideas about the independent mindworms. I'm going to rush my enemies with my terrible mindworms.... So there was two solution: 1. Keep my mindworms in fungus 2. Capture mindworms near enemy bases. I'm going to check these solutions. Keep playing! SzabFer

FWIW -- the reason that the manual doesn't talk about native life units not requiring support is that when it went to press they did require support. After a couple experiments, this was added in a very late change just before the game went 'gold' but a while after the manual had gone off to the printers. |

I am not too sure about this, but i think that an independant unit that captures a mindworm always creates an independant mindworm. I experimented with this for a few hours today and it always held true. So, i just run my independant mindworms in circles.. slowly creating an unstoppable horde .. at least until my opponents get trance units. |
