Right now I'm trying to finish the game with the Hive, at the begining I'm wipe the floor with all the other faction since my followers are breeding like rabbits and finishing all the SP with their + 1 industry. However around the middle of the game net energy income start to drop to negative. I build a energy bank at every base but my base facilities are still overloading. Is there any good way to boost my income without the benefit of more advanced tech?

Are you using Echelon Mirror/Solar Collector farms with supply crawlers? |

Hmm, you are using police-state/planned/power/eudaimondic, right? |

1. Never stop building new cities. Typically new cities make surplus energy.2. Plant forests and build Tree Farms and Hybrid Forests. This reduces inefficiency and increases energy production while not sacrificing mineral/food production like mirrors and panels. 3. As has already been pointed out, use supply crawlers. 4. In coastal cities, make sure you build sea formers and put out tidal generators. These generate a lot of energy and are easy to make. 5. Efficiency is king! Use social engineering to increase your efficiency or economy. I never build solar collectors, and in my last game I was making over 8000 credits a year before I got bored and decided to buy the final two SPs to win the game. |

Thanks, but in respond to Briareos's suggestion on efficiency. For some reason, the Hive efficciency never change on the social engineering, it doesn't get worse or better. |

Excuse me now, but how are you supposed to get all out of supply crawlers since you want to expand as much as possible and the place where you build those solars & echelons could be used for bases also? Or do you use them in bases that have lots of resources but not enough population to use them? I don't know because I haven't used them yet and nobody I know uses them (well... nobody who has smac anyway...) |

I build ****loads of supply crawler, my land is crowded with them.Usally when you build cities there will always be a few squares inbetween that no city can use. Good spot for crawlers. And most of the time my cities never get so big that they can take advatage of all the squares around them, so that's where I put supply crawlers.

I didn't realize what supply crawlers did until recently.1. First build one, it won't cost any support. 2. Place it over a square you want to extract resources from but aren't using (e.g., a borehole) 3. It will sit there and add the extracted resources to its home city's resources. It continues until destroyed. Thus, they are great, b/c they are a total net gain for your city. Problem: They can be destroyed very easily in wartime, especially one air power is developed. |
