Which landmarks are good and bads? I usually build a city in the middle of the Ruins. I was disappointed with the resources of the Borehole Cluster. Is this a useless landmark?

Hmm... I think almost every one of them is good... with the exception of Great Dunes...FreshWater Sea: +1 nutrient Garland Crater: +1 mineral GeoThermal Shallows: +1 energy Great Dunes: ? provide no bonus resources? Monsoon Jungle: +1 nutrient New Sargasso: just what fungus produces Pholus Ridge: +1 energy Sunny Mesa: elevation good for energy The Ruins: fungus + monoliths Uranium Flats: +1 energy I've got no clue of what Borehole Cluster (other than the name) since I'm reading these from the manual... Ok... It looks like the Great Dunes are the only actually bad place... I guess Sargasso depends on your tech level... someone correct me if i'm wrong |

Sargasso sea tends to have lots of unity pods in there. Be sure to go in with a transport to harvest any possible alien pods. The Borehole cluster is exactly what it sounds like. There are boreholes pre-mined for you to claim. |

The Borehole Cluster only gives me 2 minerals each.

Cort, How far you into the game? You cannot unlock the full potiental of boreholes and some other improvements until you learn certain techs. There is a tech associated with energy, minerals and nutrients. Untill you discover them you will not be able get more than 2 units. If more is available that you cannot fully tap it is generally noted with a dark ring around the resource number. |

Cort, you only get 2 minerals because you haven't discovered the techs that allow you to get more than two minerals per square.MONSOON JUNGLE RULES! |

I agree... Monsoon jungle is the best. I shove tons of bases right next to each other in the monsoon and surprisingly enough they all reach around a size 10!!!! (even sitting right next to each other, in each others radii...!!)The bad part about the monsoon is that the gaians are usually the ones who occupy it...although i have had games where PK has occupied it, and even i have a couple times... But most of the time the Gaians are the ones to land close to it... :-(

Yeah, Monsoon rules!, but in the game I'm playing now Miriam has the Jungle and it's p***ing me off. One question, If I PB her then raise the land back up, is it still the Monsoon Jungle? |

No, which really bites. I've had huge sections of the Jungle taken away when a run into a pod and it triggers an earthquake. And I worked so hard for it, too!(I restarted 12 times in that game to get it. Every once in a while, I just feel the need to kick the AI's *** for being so stupid) |

The Garland crater is good too. I was playing as Miriam on a small long-stretched island. I was just plodding along, building pods, had only 3 techs yet, when suddenly UoP stands before my nose with 4 recon rovers and some infantry. Bye bye game. |

I like mount planet, you can rake in 7-8 minerals per square if you're lucky. |

Most find that Monsoon Jungle is one of the best Landmarks there (even though at least having one except the Dunes is fine) Now the point is: How to get the Jungle? I have a little strategy about getting to the Jungle first (in case no factions starts right there). Since the Jungle *always* is around equatorial longitude, you can pretty estimate how far you are from it right from the start. If you're at the poles victinity, then you need to expand FAST towards the equator, if you are already near the equator, travel along it. Sometimes the jungle is on an Island all by itself so building a transport might reveal the location as well. Also sometimes you find an lonely edge of a continent covered by 1 or 2 tiles of jungle. Simply travel into that direction over the ocean, and the jungle lies there.. Have Fun Drax |

If you do wind up in the Great Dunes, the surrounding area is usually pretty arid as well. In that case the best strategy is to shoot of the Weather Paradigm right away so you can build condensers. I have a size 35 city in the middle of the great dunes and it only cost me 3 condensers plus normal improvements. |

I think the monsoon jungle has to be the best depending on its size, with garland crater a close second. The nice thing about garland crater is since all water flows down, if you drill 1 river on the inner bank of the crater, it will flow all over, usualy covering all of the +1 mineral squares in 1 river. I have been thinking of trying to get a similar effect on a larger scale by teraforming the land on a continent up all around its rim. Since a river flows untill it hits a body of water, this could theoreticaly make a river that puts the nile to shame. (also, would be nice if there was a landmark river) |

Recently, while playing in the demo as the Morganites, I was fortunate enough to put my 4th base right smack dab in the middle of the geothermal area. Two pods in the vicinity were found to contain nutrients and minerals. My terraformer planted kelp on the nutrients (it later expanded to fill almost the entire area) and a mining platform on the minerals. Thanks to being a Free Market/Wealth/Democracy Morganite (and without, sadly, the Merchant's Exchange which was in my home city) I had an 8 population 50 energy per turn monstrosity by the end of the time limit. |

Actuallly, Nessus Canyon gives you +1 Minerals along the inside of it. Or it did *me*, anyway. |

Borehole cluster is another great one, after Monsoon Jungle, of course. It allows you to have a super productive city very fast. Just place supply crawlers on the boreholes are start churning out special projects. |

Landmarks are great, but try to fight for them with 6 other human players. In this this case it is not worth to invest a dime in the war for landmarks. But if you start there protect it well...or else. |
