Topic: Submissive Pact Brothers: When to accept?

When do you all think you should accept the submission and Pact of a faction you've beaten? What circumstances are just not worth it, and you may as well simply take over all their bases? When do you show mercy? In fact, do you at all, or do you all just find it better to take over all their bases?I find accepting the PK's is useful in a council, and when the University is significantly ahead of me in tech but has few bases, are two of my favorite times.

Lately I have always accepted submission but I am finding Miriam particularly useless. Hive, Gaia, and Morgan are borderline, and as you said UoP and PK can be useful. |

If you are the Believers, you should let the UoP surrender because they will make better use of that base (in terms of tech) than you can. Also, if they are fairly big then you might want to let surrender to minimize your casualties. You can always force them to cede control of one of their bases after they surrender (they will always do so the first time, and the second time you have to pay). The PK's are useful for council votes. The Morganites can earn more money, which you can just demand (to refrain from crushing them like a bug) and get it from them anyway. |

I'd say always accept. Of course, if you want to see the nice interrogation scene... |

I usually accept since then I can concentrate my attention on someone else. I was playing Spartans last night and the Gaians were my neighbors. I took 1 city (they had 3-4 left) and they surrendered. But then they REALLY began to thrive. They researched 3 times as fast as me, and they got elected Plan. Governor WITHOUT the empath guild. I wasn't even a candidate... |

I started off never accepting but after a tricky situation where I hadn't quite got the tech advantage over the Believers I needed to take them out, I allied with the Gaians and used them as a buffer for about 30 turns, enough to build up a big enough force to repel those religious fanatics. It's going to be hard fighting my way through the Believers but I think I can do it. My native units are coming along nicely (another benefit of having a submissive pact partner is all the techs they give you, I've got all the environmental stuff). Plus the Gaian votes got me the planetary govenorship. So I'm thinking I quite like this pact thing and I just made a pact with Lal. I have got Morgan, the Believers and Yang after my neck and my empire is on a terrible long thin continent so I need all the help I can get as my favourite solid core surrounded by war factory cities strategy isn't possible. |

I recently played a game where early on the Gians surrendered to me (I only had to take 2 cities), and recently the PK surrendered to me after I brought them from my rival in the council for votes(well, not really, but they prevented me from being elected Plan. Gov.) to 3 cities. I then demanded 1 and bought the other 2 dirt cheap. It ruled. I also bought out most of the gaians (or traded seabases with pop1). It ruled. Genocide is also fun, PBs RULE! |

When you are the Morganites, accept. |

Actually, surrendered factions are useful for one thing - trade. Giving them little size 1 bases will allow your size 14 base to get +6 commerce. Cheap trade. |

In recently played game (TRANCEND level) have i University as submissive alied. University give me instant all new technologies and votes in Council always with me. I'm now no.1 in tech. No problems with Zakharov ... But in earlier games have i bad experiences with Hive or Believers. As submissive alied both declared vendetta against me and it was big problem overthrow both at the same time... |

Well, it usually depends on what you went to war for.Are you in it for territory and population, an the benefits that go with them? If so, you might not want to accept a surrender. However, If you are in it for tech and money, always accept, especially if you are fighting a high-tech or rich faction. This is what I am doing in my current game as the Hive. I had poor research, so I decided to build up a large low-tech army and attacked the two University basse on my continent. Then I stole Superstring Theory, built a landbrige, and am currently taking out their bases and technology. However, I am trying to take as few bases as possible, and not damage the terrain or cities, as I plan to continue until they surrender, when I will give them back some of their bases and have them do my research for me. (It's going well. I've taken control of the Virtual World, Hunter-Seeker, Longevity Vacine and I'm Planned so I get two less drones every base , Ascetic Virtues, Planetary Datalinks, although I have not gotten any tech from it, and am only a few turns away from their surrender (I hope).

Of course, it works better if they surrender before they only have three seabases left! |

Natguy: The Hive have a poor economy, which hurts their research, but they can still build Energy Matrices. The Solar/Echelon Hedgerows are now said to be best:................ EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ................ Somewhere in there may be bases (in which case also build farms and soil enrichers), or you can gather the energy with supply units (and skip the farming). After all, Hive are good at building, so go for Weather Paradigm and build lots of Formers, to amplify your Population Growth and Industrial advantages, and make some Energy Matrices. Also, go for Fusion reactors and the Clean mod, and build zillions of Speeder Formers (Super formers when available, and Hover formers later) with a few Trance formers mixed in for protection. As soon as you get the Wealth technology, make tons of Supply crawlers, yes to grab remote resources, but especially in preparation to hurry Projects. Make the best spies you can. You might not be rich or spywise enough to rival Morgan or Miriam, but every faction can use spies, Yang is middle of the road here, and he can switch to Fundamentalist. You only need 32 energy credits in the bank, which you can be refunded that turn. With energy matrices and reasonable commerce, the Hive can be moderately well off - though of course Yang confiscates all the wealth for his superior discretionary expenditure. But you don't need to spend money to steal tech, only sometimes to trade for it.
