There are a few new pics in the Gallery. The one of most interest will probably be the top one...the Planetary Council screen!
I'll be out of the office until next Monday, so hopefully these few pics will give you something to talk about until next week...

I like the planetary council pic. I wonder though...if you are a big enough butthead when voting about stuff, does that change you political standing with other factions.
Perhaps I should take this question some place else. |

Maybe he's already got a lot of energy credits and nobody else does. That's what I think anyway. |

I just looked at the new pics and the Planetary Council picture is great. I think the Planetary Council is a great idea and will make the game fantastic. |

It reminds me of the MOO2 vote thingy a lot. |

Yeah, but you only got to see THAT vote once in the game... I hated that vote, it essentially marked the end a lot of the time. I wanted to keep playing without necessarily being hunted by the rest of the universe... :P |

Observations about the Gamespot pics:
Picture at http://www.gamespot.co.uk/pix/1998/07/939.html
Volcano (Firey core, solidified lava flow patterns around the cone)
Combat Explosion
Singularity Units:
Singularity Laser
Singularity Shield
Singularity Engine
Gravship
Psi Attacks & Defenses
Picture at http://www.gamespot.co.uk/pix/1998/07/948.html
Mindworm Unit
Speculation: Mindworm Unit color is red. Possible 'barbarian-esque' unit type, unavailable to players? The orange/red faction name reads Believers, but the color does not appear to match exactly.

New Council Vote: Melt Polar Icecaps
Picture at http://www.gamespot.co.uk/pix/1998/07/951.html
Base Name: Survival Base. Option to rename does exist.
Selected as Garrison, with option to Support? Auto-build related, or possible role?
Selected as 'Resource' with options for 'Psych' and 'Support'?
Building a 'Prototype' unit.
Has Commerce window. (Excellent addition.)
Uses 'Rounded' 5x5 grid, missing corners, as in Civ2.

Another view of the volcano. (Apparently named Mount Planet)
The bay to the south is named New Sargasso.
Unit visible: Trained Singularity Sky____? Image suggests fixed air defense, but I'm not certain.
Picture at http://www.gamespot.co.uk/pix/1998/07/954.html
Vehicle design screen.
Chassis: Speeder
Weapon: Alpha Laser
Shielding: Steel Armor
Reactor: Fission Plant
SP Ability 1: Blinker Displacer, bypass base defenses
SP Ability 2: Hypnotic Trance, 2x vs. Psi units |

Can anybody read the pic at Gamespot about the Planetary Council that is voting to melt the ice caps? Underneath "Proposal to melt ice caps" there is a whole bunch of writing that I cannot make out. |

Thanks for pointing out those Gamespot pics. I really wanted to see more actual gameplay screenshots, and those look awesome. On the pic at http://www.gamespot.co.uk/pix/1998/07/953.html
It looks like the ocean has a name on it, "New Sargasso." Very cool. I also liked the city screen design a whole lot. Kicks the pants off the one in Civ:Call to Power. I can see why Firaxis might be reluctant to show too much too soon though. A lot of their ideas could easily be ripped off. |

With regard to the Survival Base screen on 951.html, I bet the garrison/support buttons on the left toggle the window between displaying the units garrisoned at the base and those the base supports (just like in Civ2 you could see the units stationed at the city and the units the city supported). |
