A linux port would be interesting, if unlikely. I know that Call to Power was ported to linux by lokigames, but I had no idea there was talk about SMAC for linux.I'd love to see a port, but I'd hate trying to get it running on top of my current linux system. I'm still learning the OS, and it took a monster effort to make XF86 go. I haven't taken the time to find and install the driver for my card. It didn't come with the distro. I should have gotten a vodoo I've heard of a windows simulator/emulator called wine. The homepage for that is www.winehq.com. I'm not sure how well it will work, though. The movies, sounds, etc. need Direct X. |

Theoretically, wine would also handle directX. In practice, I don't know for sure. But I have heard good things about wine in general, though I haven't tried it myself. I should see if anyone I know has tried playing a directX using game via it.On the other hand, can't you turn the directX stuff off in the AC config files? Isn't that what the 'solution' to certain problems was, at least? Eris (If wine works as well as it's supposed to, may give up Windows altogether.) |

Probably everybody has heard of Freeciv, but if not, it's worth a look. It might even be in your linux distro.http://www.freeciv.org/ |

I'm told that wine will not handle DirectX stuff yet but that it is being worked on. |
