Where does it tell me what was happening to Earth when Unity left? I have looked everywhere and I couldn't find it.

Roland Sennholz That is an interesting question. I Don't think there is an "official" version of that future history. The topic has been touched on in some of the SMAC fiction though. There was a thread started by Philippe Mipz Lepage titled "Meanwhile Back on Earth" or something. Mostly humorous. And there were the Chronicles of Pre-Unity. that touched on the growing anarchy as the UNS Unity was being prepared.

I've heard mentioning that the earth was destroyed by war, but I don't know where. Alpha centauri is considered the last hope for humanity. |

the intro movie shows the beginning of a nuclear war. i think civilized life on earth will be frosted by the following nuclear winter. back to the stone-age until the shelter people will come to the surface. |

Firaxis let unexplaned this point, because of a "sequel opportunity". They speak about revolt on earth and a lot of serius trouble, plus stating that Unity lost every communication from Earth (but the Commander have tryed to sent messages to Earth anyway). Maybe next game you will go back to Earth and have to rebuilt civilization from scratch, cleaning up the pollution, manage some survivor (mutates' faction?) and so on. Perhaps, after the alien coming back to Chiron in Alien Crossfire, in SMAC2 you'll launch a distress call (Alien factions will use one instead of Ascend to Trascend as a Winning condition) to call home for reinforcement; maybe that will lead instead to the completly new game (the "Sid Secret Project"?) about conquer and management of the galaxy. By the way, in my Civ II games I usually launched the ship to Alpha Centaury with the Earth in pretty good shape, who mess things up so badly? |

I'll tell you who: Anyone who thought "Well, I've got all the science... no point in democracy anymore, so lets become raving fundamentalists and see how low the worlds opinion of me can get..." |
