Yes folks, that right! As of ENHANCEMENT 4, there is a hidden feature. A bonus one at that. They kept it a secret, didn't tell us and all. Even gave us false information, "that they had decided to remove that FEATURE." But they didn't remove it. They left it in! WHat fun boys and girls... Getting PB'd by Yang from 40 tiles away. Isn't it lovely. We should all gather together and give the good folks at FIRAXIS a presesnt for keeping this much wanted feature. Thanks Firaxis for your dedication to quality gaming.Trippin Daily -sarcasm, no?-

This doesn't work vs PB's, but when those conventional missiles start, there is a way to turn it to your advantage. Build (1)-1-1 police for 10 minerals. Then designate them as defenders. It is a military victory when they destroy a missile (60 minerals). A tip from Weird Uncle Jesse. |

WUJ - they're still a pain in the ash, but you're right about the mineral tradeoff.Trip, they're going to want to know if its reproducible from a saved game. Otherwise its your system configuration causing the missile bug. You probably have a midi-chlorian infestation of your motherboard, or maybe you need to add some extra fans to cool down the processor. Have you tried playing while standing on your head, singing Barry Manilow music? Sometimes that works, sometimes you just get a headache. Try scanning for viruses, a scandisk run, then defrag wether it needs it or not, then uninstall and reinstall SMAC. Then do it all over again while splashing the blood of a freshly killed chicken on the monitor, by candlelight. Works best on a full moon. Is there such a thing as too sarcastic, and if so how close did I get. Definitely passed the too much rambling stage, way back, closer to the beginning, somewhere, yeah. |

Sandworm - Any idea how hard it is to get the blood of a freshly killed chicken off a monitor??????Last time I tried that I found bits of feathers in mykeyboard for months. It stops relatives "borrowing" the machine though.... Beta-1 Tried to summon the devil through his monitor and found only "Enhancement 4" |

Sandworm and Beta oneYou got it all wrong. Leave the keyboard and monitor, you'r not using them for smac. In a month they'l smell the same as the FarXis relationship with its (ex) fans. |

Beta1 - maybe you succeeded? The devil has many names, maybe Enhancement 4 is one of them. |

If we're thinking along those lines its more likely that "enhancement 4" is the last of the horsemen of the apocalypse. Was its arrival predicted by nostradamus? Beta-1 Is preparing for the end of the world as he knows it |

I've sent a saved game to Firaxis that was saved just before Yang hit me with a planet buster from 40 squares away. Hopefully that should help them fix the problem. In the meantime take it easy on them, for crying out loud. Bugs or no they've designed an excellent and original game that I personally enjoy immensely. Certainly no one who is complaining so much could claim to have the ability to make a game as good as this. I'm not saying the bugs should be ignored, but the game rocks despite them. Keep it up Firaxis and don't pay no mind to the naysayers. |

So what you are saying, jkoenig, is that you won't care if Civ3, SMACAX, and Sid3 has as many, or MORE bugs in it?Anytime you tell a company that you don't mind the bugs, you are validating them not squeezing the maximum amount of bugs out. As long as the customer base is accepting high amounts of bugs, then QA will get the short shaft in time and money, making even MORE buggy products. It's simple economics. They target the time they THINK they need to meet a minimum level of QA. Why? Cost. QA is not viewed as critical value added. It's brakes between the developers and the customers. It finds bugs that should be fixed and delaying income, when you can just go directly to the customer and allow them to PAY YOU for the privilage of finding the bugs. And some of them will even tell all the others they are stupid, all games have lots of bugs, be happy they got what they got. -Darkstar |

Right on, Darkstar.jkoenig: As i've said many times before, I am a LONG time Sid fan. I still have the utmost respect for Sid and his programming team, and I also think that SMAC is a great game (gasp!) despite all the bugs. But it is the apathy of the QA department which makes me so mad. Their blatent laziness is dragging down the name of possibly the greatest game designer that ever lived. If Sid would just wake up and see that the QA department's talents would be better suited for a janiorial position around the office, Firaxis and SMAC could be the best of the best, instead of slightly "above-average." Furthermore, Firaxis HASN'T been listening to the naysayers, and that's been the whole problem. They don't mind receiving praise, but they just can't handle criticizm, even when its non-offensive and objective. As long as they turn a blind eye toward's SMACs problems (which are rooted deep within the annals of QA), SMAC will never achieve true greatness. |
