Is there any way to edit pictures of units ?
The units.pcx file is useless.

The units are in a weird 3D rotating proprietary format called "Caviar" graphics. You must have noticed that it really slows down the game. Brian Reynolds has publicly stated that this choice was a mistake.
Caviar is also uneditable by any tools known to us poor players.
Yes, this is very sad: no complete mod packs. In that respect, Civ2 was superior - and after all the effort we made to convince BR that SMAC needed to be fully customisable.
