The Wall Street Journal today(8/5) has a large story by Dean Takahashi about Civ building games. (Yeah, I read the Wall Street Journal. You want to make something out of that?
) The story mentions CTP and Age of Kings, but AC is really the star attraction, as, indeed, it deserves to be.This is really nice placement though, I must say. Front page of the second section, two columns. You really CAN'T buy adverising like that. About the only thing missing was a line drawing of Brian Reynolds. Maybe next week.
Anyway the WSJ has readership of something like 5 million so lots and lots of people will read it and plenty of them will probably buy the game. Sweet for Firaxis, of course, but also good for those who do buy it. There just isn't any other game on the market with as much play value as SMAC. Believe me, I've looked. I have high hopes for AOK, though.
It is nice to see SMAC get some mainstream attention. Now if only it were to get a killer review in PC Gamer....
