The currently documented features of SMACX are somewhat below my expectations.
Currently the only features which I'm excited about are:
-new factions (aliens, pirates)
-faction editor (ACEdit+)
-extra planet ecology (hopefully also an extra colour for fungus, perhaps an extra fungus type altogether)
-sea based faction(s)
-extra planetary council options

Here are some suggestions to improve the value for money of SMACX:

-add option in rules section for disabling sea colony pods/sea bases.

-add option in rules section for disabling the all seeying eye of the planetary governor and infiltrators of networks. This is significant in creating an extra challenge for experienced players.

-add planned city sites as mentioned in one of my previous posts. Quick summary:
you can select squares for new bases. The future city zones are displayed on the map (in some different colour or grayed out). This way it's a lot easier to prevent overlapping between cities. An extra plus is that you don't have to remember the exact location for all your planned bases. You can also add an option in the colony pods go to command (go to site x, perhaps you should be able to name them). You can also add an option for formers to go and terraform the neighbouring area of planned city sites.

-improve the graphics of helicopters, rockets and colony pods.

-fix "the incredible shrinking phenomenon" of infantry.

-if peace treaty is agreed upon, the borders between the two corresponding factions don't shift when bases are build.

-improve the AI significantly (counter-attack when bases are lost, AI value appreciating of different bases, use of alle available units for defense when the AI homeland is attacked, more building of base improvements/satellites, more terraforming by AI).

-improve the difficulty of the highest levels in general. Make sure the computer players have at least a chance to survive beyond shard and plasma weaponry.

-graphics editor for factions (or at least some portraits and symbols on the CDRom for custom factions).

If at least some of my suggestions (some of which have been mentioned by others quit a lot already) are included I will certainly buy the expansion.

Just add a picture of Geri Halliwell for one of the faction leaders.

That should spice it up appropriately.
