I didn't find the article at all insulting. In fact, I found Morris amusing, cogent and informative. This seems a poor basis upon which to found a boycott of one of the top 3 or 4 titles I've ever played...

I had this 'bug', I produced no unit of a certain type, yet the defense screen said I produced 255. I had this same 'bug' in SMAC.
Is something wrong with my configuration perhaps ?
I'm not one of those guys who hypes a game months before it's released (really) in fact I'm annoyed when I see a certain game hyped and people forcing themselves to buy it, I'm not one of those guys who rushes to the store the moment it's released (I bought SMAC only a few weeks ago, after serious consideration) and I do have a social life, an interesting one too. Yet I'm one of those whiners.
I find this pretty insultive towards the customers, the buyers of games, their source of income. He says it's a billion $ industry now. True, but it's the only billion $ industry with such a huge lack of respect for the customer. What does Volkswagen do when they see a fault in one of their types of cars ? They call all sold items back for reparations, on their costs. The softaware industry says: Agh, we'll release a patch afterwards and everybody's happy. (except the one who has the pay the phone bills)

i guess the fact that he works at firaxis and has to hear our crapp all the time (if in fact, they do look at the forums) would make him write something like that...but I think most of it is, sadly, true
