From the press release:

----

The addition of "Geosynchronous Survey Pods," for example, will improve a colony's ability to track nearby enemy forces. Or players can toss their dissidents into the new "Brood Pit" and watch them be devoured by hatchling
Mind Worms.

---

Brood pit? My only guess for this would be a way of eliminating drones (and decreasing pop?) while improving the level of your native units (maybe a +1 morale boost for new native units?)

Of course, it may be an action, along the line of nervestapling, rather than a structure. Or, of course, a combination of the two.

Thats what it sounds like to me or possibly even be considered an atrocity or along those lines with sanctions or such.

I don't see how killing dissidents is any better than starving your base, which you can do already without suffering any sanctions.

Geosynchronous Survey Pods: will they be Orbital Sensors? How do you specify the area they scan?

Notice that they specify "A COLONY'S ABILITY"... I don't know for sure, butt his looks like it would be a base specific structure, instead of a faction wide effect, like the current orbital installations. Would also probably be limited to one per base, I would assume.

"Geosynchronous" implies that the survey satellite is stationary (relative to a point on the earths surface), probably directly over a city that builds it.

Probably it will either:
1. Increase the base's sight range from 2 to 3
2. Let you specify a square to target. It will let you see everything within 2 or 3 squares of that spot.

If it is #1, then probably there will be a limit of 1 per base. If it is 2, then there will be no limit.

Wonder if they modified satellite combat to allow attacking the Geosynchronous Survey Pods? Any idea what the requiisite tech is?

Remember that thread asking a new feature in SMACX allowing you to choose a way to execute a faction leader after you conquer that faction? I think Firaxis saw that thread, and responded with the Brood Pit. A somewhat sadistic, but great idea!
