I have a question that doesn't relate in any way to the meaning of life, but I thought the title might get someone's attention. What programs do you need to create a computer game and where can I get them?

Well, I don't know about those programs, but I could answer your questions about the meaning of life... Alexnm |

Er... C++ is useful. And MS Paint. And an Mp3 player if you want to be really classy. You might also want to have some kind of animation studio, but stay away from 3D design stuff. You should under no circumstances using 3D technology in your game unless your name is Chris Taylor. |

Chris Taylor is the legend who designed and built the original Total Annihilation, taking a 3D, polygonal approach to an RTS game. He is currently the only person who has managed to get this approach to work.C++ can be ordered at most serious computer places, it is the chief programming lanuage used at the moment, probably due to the microsoft hegenomy (spl?). If you have windows 95 or 'better', then you have MS Paint. And I know bugger all about MP3 stuff. |

again with the 42! Ack! I used assembler, pre-PC. But now C is the only way to go, even if stuff is less well optimised. |

RTS is short for Real-Time Strategy. Starcraft, C&C, Total Annihilation, Age of Empires, etc. Some have more peace features than others, but they're all about good old-fashioned combat with mass armies. Although it seems as though half the players on Battle.net are reluctant to build troops or come out of their base during the first 15 minutes.... |

SMACtrek: By which time you own 2/3rds of the available mineral sites and have a gas intake that ticks over like the national debt sign?Makes sense. Senor: I don't believe you don't know what RTS and MS paint are, anyway. How long have you owned a computer. |

Incidentally, Twinsen's Odyssey also tells a lot about the Meaning of Life.Pity it's an Adventure game, but it does have strategic elements. Hey! Stop throwing those brickbats!
