Instead of calling the region Australia, why don't you guys call it Oceania (that's how we name it in French, Australia is just that big island where Mathilda Waltzes, Kangaroo box and people live upside down - Oceania includes all the pacific islands, NZ, polynesia, micronesia and so forth).

I'm pissed at the "other" category -- most of the world (by sq km and population), contrary to most english speakers assumptions, is not USA or Europe.

I realize that the origin of this topic was just to see how many Europeans vs. US players were on the net, but why not keep the individual country names on the list?
Then we won't have to worry about how to group them together on the list. :-)

I reside (and was born) in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
DrPhibes: most fluent English speakers live in Asia (about a billion or so in South and South-East Asia, and the numbers are rapidly increasing in China), and there are several hundred million English speakers in Africa.
A few countries have low rates of English usage: for example Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, parts of southern Europe, and of course France and its colonies, but they're the exception.

Mukashi mukashi (a long time ago) i lived in North Richmond, just next to Carlton brewery -- what a wicked place! You ever check out the Bakers Arms? If it's still there it's a great pub.
BTW i meant "native" english speakers (kind of a racist terminology, but one we seem to be stuck with). I just get tired of confronting euro-american centricism, and the "other" category rankled.
Thanks for pointing out the fact that there are more people in Asia and Africa (showing their vast intellectual expertise) speaking english (as a second language) than there are "native" speakers. Why the Japanese have not mastered this (despite their also vast intellectual expertise) is something i often ponder on the train to Tokyo. Maybe something to do with their retreat into the "inner world" after WWII.

British Columbia, Canada, and since Canada is not only the second biggest country in the world, but the best country in the world in which to live (according to the UN) and has the 6th least corrupt government in the world (#1 is Denmark, and the US is undoubtably way down there near 300), and since we have a way better football league than any of you, I think that we should get our own category. Wow, I was gone for a week and this thread exploded with replies. Now I didn't mean to insult any nations with "other" but look at the current counts; already 6 categories. The original intent was to see how many Americans and Europeans there were. Feel free to break it down into 1,000,000 catagories if you want, but I don't think that making it any more precise is going to help.

I use to be here all the time (mostly lurked) but than the civ3 forum at apolyton drew me away
multiplayer smac kicks *** and is by far the biggest improvement in smac over civ2 mge and ctp, play it if you can (perferibly LAN)

Well, I used to live in the high desert on the western side of the USA. About this time last year, I dropped by HQ to visit. They felt I was too close by, so in Feb they shipped me to Korea.
