Hello all, I may not be Dutch, but I'm living in Holland. This would not be a problem if it didn't prevent me from playing a lot of games, SMAC being the most important. It is only available in freaking DUTCH! I was forced to choose CTP, shame since it isnt that great. Why is it ONLY available in Dutch? Why can't there be a language selection in the setup or something? This is annoying, you know... In my desperation I bought CivCTP and played that, since that one was released in English. Oh, my... Why can't there be a language selection in the setup, so that people like me that prefer games in English can play games? Thanks in advanse for your response, Firaxis...

Cone to Holland... they have nothing but Dutch language SMAC here... such a shame... Oh, and no, I'm not a racist. I just think that all aliens should have the decensy to speak English... they always do in the movies... |

All aliens speak English because humans have developed a Universal Translator. Heart that in Startrek Voyager. |

Hmmm..., quite strange. I'm Dutch, living in Holland and I do own a copy of SMAC (UK-version) which I purchased in Holland. I've never even heard of a Dutch version of SMAC. In fact, all the adventure/strategy-games I own are in the English language. |

Apparently Earthling7 is the only who has a Dutch version. Now I really want to know what's going on. Firaxis, thanks in advance for your response.Earthling, what's the name and place of the shop where you found Dutch SMAC? |

Oh yeah something else Earthling. I'm for the moment very active on Civ3 threads, especially Government/SE and Terrain/TI and I want to ask you something about stacked combat because you have CTP. How can you defend your cities if the computer comes to you with an army of 9 units? In Civ2 it was possible to defend your cities with let's say 1 or 2 Defensive Infantries ( example Musketeers), and in a few cities some Cavalries and Artilleries ( Dragoons and Canons). With that I could defend against all that ancient AI military. Is that still possible if they come to you with 5 Chariots or something like that? |

Hi, Here I am agin, back at work and ready to litter these forums again... 1. Right, I am going on a holiday in America in a few weeks, I'll buy it then. 2. If you want SMAC in Dutch, you'll find it everywhere... Free Record Shop and on train stations... I've seen in in Den Haag Central... 3. CTP... A good thing is to have units that can bombard. That way you will be able to attack them before they attack you, that will soften them a little. Also, being ahead in technology is always a good thing. Be a step ahead. And again, it is very rare that the AI has 9 units stacked, and if they do, there will probably have been some prelude to the attack and you will have had some time to prepare... we hope. Basically, they can stack, so can you. Keep it diverse, Musketeers are great, but they will only reach their full potential if they are backed by a couple of cannons or artillery. See ya on next post... E7 |

Never seen a Dutch version of SMAC. BTW 99% of all so-called "Dutch versions" only include a dutch manual. The game is in English. Bought SMac the day it became available here, bought it at the Free Record shop in Alkmaar. 100% pure English version (the UK version with the non-working copy-protection --> I love smac update 3.0).Even now, the only version the free recordshop in Alkmaar has is the English version. To bad The Netherlands traded Nieuw Amsterdam (now New York) against Suriname with the English a couple of hundred years ago. If they hadn't maybe the US would have Dutch as it's primary language Wouldn't that be funny Juggler ORANJE BOVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Sorry to add to the confusion, but...I have a Dutch friend here in the Czech Republic who loves Sid Meier games but a) has troubles with logic (and thus with higher levels and also with any kind of on-line help) and b) speaks no Czech. The game itself is in English, but he's still suffering. If I could provide proof of purchase, could somebody supply a photocopy of the Dutch manual? I could surely arrange to reimburse the costs somehow. ErisDiscordia |

Actually as I recall the Dutch governor of New Amsterdam sold it to the English because the English navy had just shown up outside the harbour. And since the British navy was the best in the world and his colonists would not stand with him, he sold it. |

Hello faithful followers. You have been speculating that I have a Dutch manual... The sad truth of the matter is that I have not bought the game, because I didn't feel like hearing a former say, Ja, graag meneer. It just doesn't sound right. I am going to America in a couple of weeks and I'm gonna buy it there. It is such a shame, I have been trying to play CTP for a couple of months, but the novelty of that title fades frighteningly fast. I'm really looking forward to some Sid Meier feist when I return. So, I'm sorry, but I have no manual in Dutch. Thanks for your attention... Tot ziens, Sjaumst, See ya! E7 |

It said Nederlands, not Deutch. The package was in Dutch and it said Nederlands on the blue sticker... I didn't buy it... I was depressed... oh well... |

My blue sticker is also in Nederlands. But the game is English. Perhaps you don't need to go to the USA to buy the game. Perhaps it was always available in English, but you were misguided by the sticker. BTW, just wait a year and you've got Civ3. |
