OK. Let's get to the point. On a scale of 1(crap) to 10(bestever), how would you rate SMAC. No explanations are needed. Just a number.

I rate the game at 10 million. Until another game comes around that I actually play. I go by enjoyable playing time, not bugs.

Conquest of the New World is great, bbut after bbeating very hard 6 times in a freaking row, I got dull (1996).
Civ2, got dull too, but second best game, but also got dull.
Ratings:
Civ 2
game: 10
mp: 10
AI: 5
COTNW
game: 10
mp: 9
Ai: 10
(it's the only game with an AI that can wipe your -ss out without an ally)

Well, even though I was asked to not give an explanation, I will .
I rate the game an 8.
For comparison, Halflife would be like 5 or 6.
Now don't get me wrong, I like Halflife, and it's the best FPS ever made,(cept maybe tribes) but the single player in these games will NEVER be fun until they have at least a semi-AI. Anyway, back to SMAC =)
The bugs are mostly minor. There is no real game screwin bug (cept maybe the ai unlimited range missles, but that was 'fixed' by making the games load slower )

Now don't get me wrong, I like Halflife, and it's the best FPS ever made,(cept maybe tribes) but the single player in these games will NEVER be fun until they have at least a semi-AI. Anyway, back to SMAC =)

CivII: the definition of great 10.
A Centaui: 9 fundamentally Civ, but greatly enhanced (w/ some admitted bugs)

I still feel so inclined to give an explanation for my rating, looking at all others..
My score(8) was in fact lowered by the bugs plaguing the game
My fav game WC4: Price of Freedom wasn't of much of a similar category with SMAC, but then it allowed smooth-play throughout

I'm going to have to give this game a 9. I never played Civ 2 (bad I know, might have to see if I can pick it up somewhere) so the rating might be due to the improvments made in Civ 2 over Civ 1. Civ 1 was a 10, I played that game an entire weekend when I first got it. It's now about a 6. The best thing in Alpha Centauri to my mind is the story. Basing the factions on ideology rather than nationality is incredibly cool (I find myself sometimes acting out the part of the faction leader while playing....die Zahkorov pagan scum....where is your god now Miriam). The planet story is also incredible. I have yet really to notice any bugs. The e-mail bug bites, but then it is a feature added after the game released. (most companies would not have given such a thing out for free, it would have been in an expansion), so for that I'm willing to give them some leeway.
Overall it is a great game.
