One thing I have noticed with patch 4 is that I get more terran.exe faults. It was really starting to piss me off. Then for an unrelated reason, I happened to install Norton Utilities (3.0 I think). Part of that package is Crashguard. Next time I fired up SMAC, I as suprised to find that Crashguard intercepted the SMAC fault (im sorry, perhaps its my fault, or my computers fault or a drivers fault...). CG told me that it was unlikely it could fix the problem but I choose that option if I so desired, and I did....VOILA, my game continued. This has happened several times since, and each time I can continue my game...no more lost turns, no more restarting SMAC to continue kicking b-hind... It sucks I have to do it, but it sure beats the alternative. Just thought you might like to know.

It's just a shame to have to buy a $100 utility to run a $50 game...These guys need some serious programming experts and testers. Aredhran

Don't forget, most of us need Memturbo as well |

Actually, now I *really* need a new PC, because my trusty old P100 just does not cut it anymore with all the new enhancements in V4.So you can add, say $2500 for a new PIII screamer to the bill Aredhran

So we are prizing AC somewhere between 2500-3000 to make the damn game work? Wonder if Firaxis get % from computer manufacturers? |

Well, I cant help but wonder...in Norton can intercept the crash and let the game continue, then why cant the game do it itself? Inquiring minds want to know. |
