Who's gonna move to Asian Flu? I'm considering it, but for now I'll post a few on both places, but that won't last forever. So, move or not?State the reason too, if you have one... [P.S. I'm thinking Firaxis is probably celebrating now when they've heard that some of their more vocal critics will leave]

I'm staying here. Just because of one incident where one person used foul language and the moderator banned him because he insulted smac doens't mean we all have to leave in protest. |

I'm on both but eventually will choose one r the other (and the TD principle will not enter my calculus). The other forum is technically better e(even though I won't edit my posts) Resource Consumer - won't rather than can't - |

I'm on both, plus Apolyton's.IMHO (and obviously this may change with usage): ACOL is the best multiplayer site Here is the best Stratgey/Tactics site Apolyton's is the best fiction site. Having not been in a PBEM game yet, I'm mostly lurking at ACOL. googlie |

Googlie: Exactly my thoughts. ACOL is great for multiplayer but it only has one non-multiplayer forum. Firaxis is great for normal stuff but it only has one multiplayer forum. I haven't been on Apolyton that much, but it has The List (I'm graphics thread master) so it has to be good, right? |

Despite my slavish devotion to anything MtG suggests I will still post in all three places.ACOL has the new panash, this has the long history and Apolyton has ... ahhh... the turn tracking threads. Goob |

ACOL has four, count'em, four non-MP forums. There is always a chance that one or two more could be created as well! That's what's so great about ACOL. ACOL -- a fansite, for fans, run by fans and responsive to fans SMAC n ... Ted S. |

Except to annoy counterrevolutionaries by adverstising ACOL, I won't remain on this site.I'm starting work with volunteers to create a linkable, searchable real strategies and tactics guide (unlike that feeble Prima book) that will not have fading threads dropping off the horizon so that new players reask the same questions, since they can't find the previous topics from two months ago. we are also starting work on FAQ's and tutorials for creating custom alpha.txt enhancements and custom factions, and also a FAQ tutorial for scenario creation is in the works. An independent bug identifying and confirmation effort is getting off the ground, and other projects, posted scenarios, etc. are always possible. There are now over 50 newly registered users at ACOL, and more are showing up daily. The site is dynamic, and as people ask for new features, we (meaning anyone who wants to pitch in, not some power elite) work on creating them. ACOL will become the preeminent site for all aspects of SMAC other than corporate propaganda. Evil Conqueror - a subtle point that is often missed in the trippin daily v JKM perception is that users have requested UBB and HTML be fixed, the Science & Technologies forum to be fixed, the double post bug to be fixed, etc. Firaxis has always gleefully said "not our job - it's not our site, we have no responsibility - the site is run by EA/Origin, etc." They don't give a damn about making the site features function properly, but they do get bent out of shape over one profane critic (only after he went from fan to critic) all while remaining disinterested and apathetic about an explicit porn pic left in non-SMAC for weeks. So it's not a matter of leaving in protest - they don't care to maintain or do anything with the site but ban one critic, and we prefer to patronize a responsive, dynamic, superior and growing site. |

I will continue to post here,at ACOL and occasionally at Firaxis main site....Mostly though at Acol. I am also registered at Apolyton but dont post there. I will ride the line for a while until I am either bored one way or the other or dont have the time to check so many sites or a site totally pisses me off. Which it is coming down to here. And that is because of what MtG states in the above post about maintaining a site. Not just because of the TD incident but that certainly did not help their image. |

I post here exclusively (for the SMAC-related sites anyway). It's just easier that way. It would take forever to actively participate at all of the forums. You might see me at others when the interest is down and there's less traffic. |

Great Goob!!Even after you get the habit, having something to follow in all the three places is somewhat... dispersing. But or one is a true leader, or he's not going to influence the market just by abstaining. If someone "decides" to stay in just one place, things will continue to develop everywhere there's favorable ground for them, regardless of his decision. I posted very few here in the last weeks (ok, I know no one noticed...), but I didn't decide it, it's just gone that way. To all who say no, we'll stay only here or there... well, each place has his habituees and dwellers, and I'll meet people who I'll want to meet, just where they are... |

Oh, and I never got caught by Firaxis' home forums. Is there anything worth (SMAC-related!) more than in SMAC's specific Forum? |

There are lots of SMAC sites. Alpha Centuari Online(ACOL)is nice because the format is very similar to this BBS. The frustration level over there is lower due to the non-expectation that FIRAXIS certified empolyees will respond to questions and concerns. Member managed and operated sites are understood to have a "rougher edge" than "official" sites. We expect official sites to have a higher standard of content and information. Personally, I will use and post to both sites. There are features unique to both and therefore a demand for both. If someone wants to setup an Internet Play(IP) game or a Play-by-E-Mail (PBEM) then I recommend they explore and register at ACOL. But that doesn't mean that they should not use and appreciate the official ACF. Lo P.S. If you want to visit ACOL the web address is: http://www.planetsid.com If it is impolite to post the address here then I apologize and understand the BBS moderator's responsibility to remove it. |
