Entschuldigung fr mein schlectes Deutch.

That's supposed to mean:

"Blutwurst (blood-sausage), I only speak a little bit of German but I haven't spoken any for 5 or 6 years and I can't understand everything in your post. Probably because my vocabulary is so bad.

Excuse me for my bad German. Really you should post here in English because the Americans go a bit crazy if you post in any language other than English."

Sorry for the generalisation, I put it in really because that was the only way I could think of to say it with words I know, I didn't want to put Blutwurst off posting if he could only post in German so I tried to make it sound a bit more friendly.

Anyway if anyone would like to do a literal translation of what I really said and it is actually funny please post it for all to see.

Vielleicht sollten die verrckte Amerikaner fremde Schprache lernen ?

Maybe the Americans should learn foreign languages ?

(We DO learn English, after all...)

Peace

Hei MikeH II!

Thanks for your answer. I posted my first message 'cause I wonder if there are any german users. I understand most of the things that are posted here, but it would be nice to talk to some german people, too. Now what I mean?

No problem, there are a few German speakers around. Well Roland is Austrian and I know Tapiolan Poilka's German is pretty fluent but I haven't seen them around for a while, you're most likely to see Roland in the Off Topic forum.

Not sure I can think of any actual German German speakers, not amongst the Old-Timers anyway. I do know what you mean though.

Yeah, know what you mean!
This forum is the main place, even if they made Deutsch/Franois/Espaol, you know everybody gathers here.
But when you hit someone postin from your country you feel somwhat, huh, kinda relieved... after all, mother language is natural, even if I cah think and dream directly in english.

I only think PC jargon should be kept in english as to be internationally understood.
Just don't let M.eur Toubon put his tongue on it: ordinateur? logiciel? kwatsch!!!

When somtething has to be said about a german question (i.e. german release), I find natural germans speak in german between them on issues others may not be interested in, without having to switch to the german-spoken fourm.
We did it about italian release infos, but then we didn't have an italian AC forum.

Tschu!! (mit umlaut?)

I know this probably should be in the Off Topic forum but I thought I would ask. What motivates people in non-English speaking countries to learn English? Is is games, business, forums, etc? I am an American and foreign languages tend to be just electives in school. I did not have the option to even take a foreign language class until high school (around 15 yrs old). I understand that some of you start learning English very young. I was just wondering.

Thanks for any responses.

Hier ist noch ein Deutscher

SHardy: WE have to have a foreign language for at least 5 Years, 9Years if you want to make A-Levels (I think thats what you call it, it's our Abitur, the thing you need to go to University ). And you need english for nearly everything, from reading LotR in the way it was writen, to vacations. Actually there are many scientific books that are only avaible in english. I'm in my 8th year of English at school, and comprehend nearly everything on the I-Net, which is very good for research on several school works, e.g.

Certhas,

Thanks for the reply. For some reason foreign languages over here in the U.S. are not a high priority; at least where I live. I was suprised to read that you are required to have that much foreign language to make it through school and the university. In a way I envy you that knowledge of two or more languages. I only had three years of Spanish in school but since I have had no reason to use it since I have mainly forgotten most of it. I doubt I could learn another language now - mainly I would need the time/discipline that I don't seem to have, always something else to do.

Hi there!

Well, I'm just another german guy... Thought I'd post this, although I'm relatively new to this forum (with posting; I'm reading it for a few weeks now).

The main reason why USAs won't learn foreign languages is obvious, in my opinion. Why should you learn another language, if almost all of the people all around the world do speak english? We in germany learn english, because it's the world's language. And some of us learn french, 'cause France is one of our neighbours.

If I was born in an english speaking country, I probably also would have no need to learn foreign languages.

Just my 2 cents.

Bye,
Steve.

Hei SHardy!

In Switzerland we learn two languages: French cause it's a language that is spoken here and english cause you can use it almost everywhere: In foreign countries, on the net, in games ;-). I learnt Italien, too. Knowing different languages gives you better chances to find a job.

So, I think I'd better make my work now. Cause making your work gives you better chances to keep your job ;-)

Hiho!

For the english speaking: I just told Blutwurst and the others that Im speaking german too and that I wonder why here are so few german answers.
I started with english in school at the age of 10, which is normal here and Im glad knowing my way round with this language, because the net is (mainly) english and whenever youre not in Germany you could at least try some other language

Greetings from vienna...

Europe has many different languages; the need to learn one language everyone in europe understands is clear. Almost all technical descriptions are english and - here in austria - you learn english from the very first years in school.

Peace

Blutwurst ?

For our english-speaking friends, ignore the comments above as they only refer to specific matters of the german version of the game or/and are entirely meaningless... ;-)

Hey, that could be nice!
Why don't the purchasers of localized versions (German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Finnish... is the italian one yet out?) post here a report on how factions and leaders names (or LandMarks, or whatelse...) were translated in their languages?

I read somewhere something alike with the names of SnowWhite and the seven Dwarfs, and it was really funny.
