posted 04-06-99 12:46 PM ET I'm currently putting together a website dedicated to the following:
1> Custom Factions 2> Unit Designs 3> SMAC Links 4> Advanced customizing. For example how to encode the proper mp3 for voices.. color palletes for the .pcx etc and utilities you can use to do it.
There would also be a message board for discussing the above.
If possible I'd like to get some feedback before I finish it and announce the URL.

I was planning a website a while ago wich was EXACTLY what you describe. I posted a message to gauge interest just as you've done and got exactly ZERO responses. So my advice is to do the page if it's for your benefit, but it may not be appreciated. If you do decide to, I'd personally be glad to help (I've done plenty of other game pages in the past).

I have a bit of experience when it comes to asking for feedback. so I can pretty much tell you if only a handful of people respond there's probably plenty of interest.
With the way some people are going on about the workshop and customizing I know there's a lot more interest out there. a lot of people are just too darned lazy to say so.
So even if nobody else responds I'll probably go right ahead. In fact it's looking pretty nice already. heheh I just want to flesh out a little content first. May even be ready tonight who knows?

I fully support your idea. I was thinking to do my faction but don't know exactly how. Sure, ACEdit is a great help, but that's not all. Sounds and graphis are also problematic.
Go forth with it!

heheh.. the prelimary stuff is already done I just have to design the message board. The rest I can do slowly work on later.
Important stuff is already in place. I'll put it up tonight so at least everyone can see what to expect.

You sound like you already have plans but if you don't already have your forum you can get one here: http://server.com/WebApps/
It is really good (way better than this stupid one here) and easy to manage.

Good idea jaghar I loved to create custom scenarios for CIV2, with new sounds, graphics and everything, and some resources on how best to do this in SMAC would be great. I'm a big fan of custom factions too - they make for a nice change from the ordinary.

Thanks Nell.
Actually I already have a scripts I've been using for some time now but I'll give the one mentioned a peak. The site's already up at http://www.viking3d.com/smac/ message board and all.

I think most people will not consider they have anything to tell you. The page should reflect your own ideas/style/etc.
That said most will be curious enough to check out what you've done after. Even if only to convince themselves it is a repeat of many others they've already seen.
You may get a better response if you asked for criticism after the page is up and running, but don't bet on it.

heheh yeah I know. I've been doing web pages for a little while now. I would never do one for public interest. Those are just not as fun.
I don't know what anyone considers a "better" response. So far the response is a lot better than I anticipated. So the site should do well.

for the links:
you can get the amount of links i've collected so far in the thread: "Comprehensive Databank of SMAC Websites" on this forum.
when you do get your site up, please be kind enough to post your link onto that thread.
