FWIW; I'd like some support for the wheel as well...Actually any improvement in the scrolling of the windows would help. On my system the game often skips a page or two when I try to figure out what unit to build... -- Rune |

Ok, I do support for the wheel-type mice and I can answer this question. The MS intellimouse/wheelmouse/intellimouse pro scrolling feature works by hooking off the scroll bar on the program window you currently have open. I relies on a "standard" scroll bar, IE--In your normal windows operations most windows you have have the same scroll bar. So the mouse's wheel software can hook on that scroll bar & you can use the wheel to scroll on a window. Ok, In SMAC the programmers made a special Custom scrollbar for their game. So when the wheel mouse software looks for the STANDARD scroll bar, it doesn't find one & hence your wheel doesn't scroll in SMAC. I hope this makes sense |

PS--I don't know how logitech does their wheel software. But I suspect its a similar process. |

OTOH, I assume that each mousewheel turn also generates windows messages, it shouldn't be too much trouble for SMAC to trap these messages as if they had come in from a mouse-click or keyboard entry.Ralph

Thanx guys, I knew that, I only needed to exhale the overpressure. Right ralph, that shouldn't be too much trouble indeed, and they can't say it's an unknown peripheral no one uses. Klug, how did you know I have a Logitech Pilot Plus (anatomical!)? Mmmm, fits in my big hand like a glove. |
