posted 03-31-99 01:13 AM ET For anyone who's played Civ2 and started editing all the gif files, you know how addicting this could be. Plus there was endless downloadable artwork. I was just wondering if anyone has created any new artwork for SMAC, and if it would even be fathomable to have a 3D unit creator/editor so we can get new looking chassis, etc.

Yep, I know exactly what you are talking about. The 3D style units look pretty cool but its not easy to edit them like it was in Civ2. I used to enjoy drawing unit graphics and editing the strengths and weakness in the txt files. The addicted to Civ2 site has the best unit graphics I ever got and I made alot of units with them. I even had a picture of a real ship I had scanned and edited it in photo suite and it looked awesome.

Oh those were the days weren't they. I can just remember downloading that mech style unit and editing that rules.txt file so it would be the most powerfull unit in the game.

I ran into a website which showed a different SMAC interface (which I liked more from the screenshots). Seems to be an older version. Since almost all the graphics (pcx) are configurable I wonder if these are still available somewhere.
You find one of the sites in thread "Different SMACs?"

Because of the very different layout of the older screens, I doubt the graphics could be "dropped in" as a replacement. The older screens did look much, much better, though.
And they certainly couldn't have been any harder to use.
