Topic: Darn it, Brian, FIX THE AI MISSILE RANGE CHECK ALREADY!!!!!!

For Christ's sake, Brian, how many damn patches (a.k.a. 'Enhancements') do you need to do before you fix this insane bug?I am getting real sick of spending hours nuking every single enemy base within 18 squares of my own, then some damn AI player drops a Fusion Planet Buster on my headquarters city from 27 squares away! How hard can this be to fix? And no stupid excuses please -- I know for a fact that the only enemy base or unit was no closer than 27 squares away from my headquarters for at least 10 turns before the damn missile dropped (I was governor and could inspect all enemy bases and units). Please fix this before I get so damn mad I uninstall this game and swear off ever buying a Firaxis game again. I loved Gettysburg!, but SMAC was obviously released before a horde of bugs and gameplay issues were resolved. Please don't do this again, and please insert the 2-3 lines of code into the next patch that will fix this stupid bug. Thank you. Oh, and quit with the stupid 'Enhancement' crap when we all know it's nothing but a bug fix. Chris Benjamin A somewhat depressed ex-Firaxis fan who is usually in a much better mood than right now

CEO Benjamin,Are you sure your computer system has a clean supply of power? Surges in the line can really throw these missle range issues way out of wack. You can't honestly expect Firaxis to fix the world's power supply problems can you? Next time, invest the $50 bucks in a decent power surge protector instead of bashing arguably the greatest company of our time. [ ] |

For that matter, just ask for a copy of the source code and do the whole thing yourself.Have to admit, I'm concerned if this bug is still in the game. Who missed it? Who checked the new code? Did the right version get compiled? There are a few things 'fixed' in the readme.txt that haven't been changed in the game. The present production for a city was meant to be at the top of the build queue (hopefull leading up to a more integrated system in version 4.0). Nope. Not displayed. And now the P.Bs. I keep wondering if CEO Ben has the right files installed on his hard drive - this should be fixed! |

I did a clean install and patched v 3.0 onto my system. I started a new game as the Hive. Well into the game a Spartan city launched a PB and hit my city from 32 tiles away! I had infiltrator knowledge, so I know exactly what city the only PB that Spartans owned came from. |

I am now such a great player that even the AI doesn't dare to nuke me even IF they could get close enough. So I haven't noticed this problem.Hey, maybe the missile had anti-grav? The AI isn't so developmentically challenged as we are. |

What are the chances that the planet buster was launched not from the builders city, but from a city within range of yours that belonged to a pact brother/sister of the launcher? |

I'll take for a moment my worn-out Devil's Advocate robe out of the chest in the... (er, howdoyou say the room under the roof where you keep dismissed crap and memories?).Developing further the concepts in the last two posts: can't the PBs be carried like the nukes on carriers like in CivII? Or may you equip a land or air unit with a Carrier Deck? (G, that robe is really shredded...) MariOne |

To get it strait then OSI is doing Q&A for Firaxes and as any long time UO player will know then OSI probably has THE WORST Q&A department in the business. Granted they're a lot better now than just a year ago but I'll never forget the dark phase when every UO patch would create exactly twice as many bugs as it supposedly fixed. Not to mention the countless reintroductions of old "fixed" bugs. (Q&A yeah right). In a few words, I'll believe Saddamn Hussein when he says he loves USA before I'll believe any bug that has been through OSI Q&A has really been fixed. /Dev

Um, histrionics aside, has anyone confirmed with Firaxis that the bug still exists? I would like a verification. It is possible that the PB was launched from an allied city, a carrier, or an airbase. Also, being governor wouldn't let you see cloaked or submersable units. How many PBs did the faction have in the report screen before launch? |

I agree with CEO Bernard here. I've had the Spartans launch a PB at me when their empire was at least 60 squares away. They had no carriers, and no allies nearby. And I'm tired of having missiles blow up cities right in the heart of my empire. Sort it out. |

Micje: You can't put special abilities on missiles. At least, the human player can't. So if the A.I is doing this, or using orbital insertion, or something, then it's still a flaw. |

NOOOO! Please don't say it's so. This should be easy to reproduce. Use the editor and create two cities, give one a planet buster and make the two factions enemies. |

To make things more interesing: I was playing as University when I discovered Orbital Spaceflight. The game then showed me my newly available units and BEHOLD!!! my conventional missiles and planet busters had special abilities (namely, they were clean). I was unable to manually add or change these special abilities; but when I built the missiles the special abilities did work. I have been unable to duplicate the bug in later games; however, this does suggest it may be possible (though unintended) for the computer players to produce missiles with special abilities. |

Build defense pods. I always research straight to self-aware mechanics to get the DP's. It'll lower your blood pressure. It can be done in TI tech stag, spoils so no excuses. |

Good approach to challenges is try to react instead of whining, I give you that Stargrazer, but that's not the point here. Evrybody here is not saying they can't face it, they say they can't stand it (and how can it happen). The point is AI's behavior is 1.unexpected 2.unfair 3.signals the game has one (more) bug.Planet or Bust! |
