Hi, im new to SMAC but already love it
anyway i was wondering since i spend a lot of time on IRC (Internet reelay chat) i was wonder if there is a room dedicated to Alpha centauri on any of the irc networks?

I believe so. Brian Reynolds is to have an IRC chat on April 1st. On the main page click on the news item that states that, and it'll tell you where it is.

ummmmm.. elements if you spent that much time on IRC, you would know that it stands for :
Instant Relay Chat
NOT
Internet reelay chat

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It always has, it always will. I don't know where you got the idea that it stood for Instant Relay Chat; if you've been on it, you know that it can be FAR from instant at times.
If you don't believe me, please visit ftp://cs-ftp.bu.edu/irc/support/rfc1459.txt and read. That's the official protocol format for IRC, and it plainly states at the top "Internet Relay Chat."
