ok I am new to the SMAC forum and I am trying to make up my mind on if I really want to buy this game or not.I never did play any of the civ games before so I can only judge this game on it's own merit. Something that caught my eye was a little fanfic someone wrote in which the gaians were about to transcend and the ? (santiago led faction) were about to lauch a commando raid to sabotage it and were trying to get the other factions to help. From the description given it sounds like when you transcend you become one with the planet and basically control EVERYONE one the planet. Is this true? Can someone explain this in more detail to me. Thanks your friend the zulu menace

Transcendence is reaching the stage above humanity. Enlightenment. Perfection. Godhood. In game terms, it means that you build a LOT of supply crawlers, try and get 2000 minerals somehow, and then you can win. You don't play on after transcendence, and they don't quite clarify what it is. But here's the quote:"No longer mere earthbeings and planetbeings are we, but bright children of the stars, and together we shall dance in and out of ten billion years, celebrating the gift of conciousness until the stars themselves grow cold and weary, and our thoughts return once again to the beginning." Giant Squid <-:-)-K "Eternity lies ahead of us, and behind. Have you drunk your fill?" |

As to whether or not you should buy the game, you might want to check out my post from 3/19, "What makes a SMACophile?" It's my take on why people like or dislike SMAC. |

The classic definition of transcendence was put forth by in the 1800's, probably by Threaux (spelling? pronounced Thur row). To transcend is to become one with nature. |

Well, actually they do specify what transcendence is. It is when humans upload into computers(and later planets neural net) and leave their bodies behind |
