This seems so ridiculous that it cannot be true. If ANY one has a reference to this directive electronic or other I would like to see it.
It is probably true it is allowed, but required, no.
Firaxis/(BR) said that: EA-EC told them (firaxis) that EC sw-sellers would not sell a game unless it was copy protected. Not that it was forced to be by law. This -must- be a wrongfull assumption.
Forcing CP on a product like LINUX - xconq etc. is not allowed. btw.
Until I see hard evidence this may be considered an EA-EC scam. Well admittedly other game companies also introduces cp with simlar reasons.
Well as a former byer I demand the opposite.
If the program demands a CD after a full installation the program is faulty and the SW returned. This only works if you ask and get confirmed that the program does not 'need' the CD after a full install. Ask for it. It is fun. Make some customer pressure on the sellers.
It is nice not to have to dig out the CD from the shelf if you fancy to play. Having laptop with removable CD it is nice not to be forced carrying along. Having a DVD it is nice to be able to play at all. etc. etc.
Still very upset about the user protection scheme, E.
