O.K.--just so you know where I'm coming from (which is only fair):I have been an outspoken critic of this game from my first post on this forum.
There. That's my background.
Having said that, I'd like to add a few points that might help you make a decision.
1. Most people buy the game BECAUSE of the demo. I've even read people who claim that the demo ends just when the full version starts to become boring. I can't say. I never played the demo.
2. It depends on what you didn't like about the demo. If you just didn't like the whole idea, period. Well, then, the full version doesn't roll out a whole new planet or anything. But, if you just didn't agree with the way the A.I. played or how various units fought/moved around, those things are subject (we hope) to the next patch.
The verdict here seems to be that the game is evolving, much like Civ 2 and others.
Final advice:
Watch the board. Pay close attention to our reaction to Patch 3.0. If it's positive, buy the game. As for me, if patch 3.0 doesn't fix the major problems, I'm deleting the game and going away (Yeah! The crowd cheers in anticipation.)
